Verizon ads label iPhone a "misfit toy"
Electronista | The Macintosh News Network — Verizon this weekend stepped up the pressure in its anti-AT campaign with three new ads (viewable below). The lead ad, "Misfit Toys," attacks the iPhone's attachment to AT and says it belongs on Rudolph 's Island of Misfit Toys for running on a network with relatively low 3G coverage. Unlike the recent Droid ads, the new commercials take care to praise the phone but attack the network, suggesting Verizon is backing away from direct criticism of Apple. The other two ads, "Blue Christmas" and "Elves," are less direct but still show logoless iPhones 'ruining' Christmas through their inability to get a good signal. All three ...

Verizon Wireless Launches Three More Anti-AT&T 3G Network Commercials [Verizon Wireless]
Gizmodo — Today Verizon responded to AT&T;'s "There's a Map For That" commercials lawsuit by releasing a slew of new commercials with similar themes and messaging. The battle continues, this time on the infamous Island of Misfit Toys. The first commercial, which I saw air for the first time during the New England Patriots game this afternoon, is called Verizon Blue Christmas (above). As Elvis croons, a man depressingly makes his way home with no cell coverage. He's utterly sad until he sees that a wrapped, red present might just contain the phone he's really looking for. The second ...

Verizon Attacks iPhone and AT&T… with Toys, Elves, and Xmas Blues?!
The iPhone Blog — We have to admit, Verizon’s latest, Xmas-themed iPhone and AT&T attack ads bring the funny. Continuing the savvy “map for that” (rather than silly DroidDoes), the first shows the land of misfit toys where an iPhone-looking device is condemned for its poor AT&T 3G coverage. After the break, we have elves giving Verizon devices, with robust 3G coverage, to nice children and an iPhone with poor AT&T coverage to the naughty. And, lastly, a father has a blue Xmas when his iPhone can’t reach his family (though a Verizon present awaits ...

The Hits Just Keep on Coming, More Verizon Map Commercials
Maximum PC all RSS Feed — Despite AT&T’s lawsuit against Verizon, more commercials go live bashing AT&T’s coverage. They aired three new commercials this weekend featuring the allegedly dismal 3G coverage of AT&T’s service.  The new Verizon commercials are holiday focused, featuring Santa’s elves and the iPhone that got sent to the Island of Misfit Toys. AT&T is suing Verizon in the state of New York for misrepresenting its 3G network in the “There’s a map for that” commercials that debuted a month ago. Their claims are basically that the colors of the maps (red or blue with a light gray background) confuse the ...

Verizon Holiday Ads Mock AT&T and the iPhone [VIDEOS]
Mashable! — If the iPhone is indeed coming to Verizon in 2010, as rumors suggest, is it odd that the network’s latest attack ads on AT&T put the iPhone front and center? The new holiday ads from the company tackle AT&T’s (lack of) 3G coverage yet again, in a theme similar to the “there’s a map for that” campaign. It’s possible, however, that Verizon is attacking AT&T rather than the phone itself, essentially saying: nice phone, shame about the coverage. Nonetheless, the ads are a slap in the face to AT&T, which just filed a lawsuit ...

Rumor Has It: Verizon iPhone in Q3 2010
TheAppleBlog — Even as Verizon continues attacking AT&T’s comparatively poor network with new ads, and by proxy the iPhone, the latest rumor has Apple developing a “worldmode” iPhone capable of running on any network. The three holiday-themed ads, “Blue Christmas,” ...

Verizon Comes Out Swinging, Strands iPhone on the Island of Misfit Toys
Mac|Life all RSS Feed — AT&T is suing Verizon over its "There's a map for That" ad campaign, but that hasn't stopped Verizon from using the same Verizon vs. AT&T image map of 3G coverage in the U.S. in new holiday advertising. The latest advertisement, Verizon Misfit Toys, puts the iPhone at the center of a conversation between some toys on the Island of Misfit Toys.   ...

Verizon continues assault on AT&T with series of holiday ads
AppleInsider — By Brian Garner Published: 09:25 PM EST Verizon has released three ads which continue to highlight the disparity between its 3G network coverage and AT 's. The ads, titled "Naughty Nice," Misfit Toys," and "Blue Christmas" prominently feature the coverage maps first introduced in the "There's a Map for That" commercial . These maps were a point of contention between Verizon and AT , causing AT to bring a lawsuit against Verizon for misrepresenting AT 's 3G coverage areas. The lawsuit claimed that the ads mislead consumers into believing that AT 's customers have no coverage whatsoever and cannot use their devices ...

Verizon ads mock AT&T's 3G network
iPhone J.D. — Verizon has a new series of ads that assert that people should get a phone from Verizon instead of AT&T because Verizon's 3G network provides "5X more 3G coverage."  Small print on the ads states:  "Comparison based on square miles covered with 3G.  Voice & data services available outside 3G coverage area."  While the ads ...

Verizon Takes More Shots at AT&T and the iPhone
Berry Reporter — Last week AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon because of its latest “coverage map” advertising campaign.  Clearly they were upset with the way Verizon was depicting their coverage areas and they wanted to put an end to it.  So what did Verizon do about this?  They came back with three new holiday themed ads and each feature the weak AT&T coverage map in them. The first one titled “Misfit Toys” is the most intriguing because it includes the iPhone, well not a real iPhone just a cheap replica.  In it the iPhone is sent the land of misfit toys because it doesn’t work properly. ...

Verizon Irritates AT&T Again
Ubergizmo — It seems like a lawsuit from AT&T isn’t enough to deter Verizon Wireless from stepping on AT&T’s toes this holiday season. Verizon has launched a new series of advertisements that poke fun at AT&T’s low 3G coverage, but doesn’t specifically say anything bad about Apple, which might actually give ...

Holiday Ad Wars Kick into High Gear
Apple Forums & iPhone Forums, Mods, Hacks, News, Themes, Downloads, and more! | ModMyi.com - 4,711,751,911 — There had been some rumors and speculation in recent weeks that Verizon's next round of holiday "attack ads" would take aim at Apple, iPhone jailbreakers, and, of course, AT&T. Verizon Fights Back Against AT&T iPhone With Holiday Cheer, Clay
Gearlog — The unprecedented buzz (well, for Verizon) surroundig the Motorola Droid over the past couple of week resulted in, among other things, rekindling rumors about the release of the iPhone on that carrier. Verizon, for its part, has spent a good amount of time attacking AT&T;'s network: an act that the nation's largest wireless carrier isn't taking lying down (or without a lawsuit). As it gears up for the holidays, Verizon is taking a more tongue-in-cheek approach to the whole fight with a series of ads including the above Rankin/Bass holiday throwback, which casts the iPhone ...

The island of misfit phones
MobileCrunch — So AT&T has a problem: even after early and vociferous defections by bloggers, they’ve been getting creamed for sub-par service everywhere, especially left and right coast cities that rhyme with Blue Pork and Fan Fanfisco. Verizon is stepping into that breech by releasing these clever commercials touting its network over AT&Ts. But, as Mr. Fireball notes, Verizon is talking about the invisible stuff here and ignoring its top-rated Droid. It seems that they’ve been on the “coverage” kick for so long that they can’t get ...

Verizon Targets AT&T, Labels iPhone a ‘Misfit Toy’
Cult of Mac — Verizon Targets AT&T, Labels iPhone a ‘Misfit Toy’ 10:46 am, November 9th, 2009, Ed Sutherland Verizon has released three new ads attacking AT&T, the latest labeling the iPhone as a “Misfit toy.” The ad charges the handset belongs on the “Island for Misfit Toys” because of AT&T’s lack of widespread 3G coverage. Two other Christmas-themed ads take aim at the rival carrier’s coverage. This latest round of ads differ from Verizon’s iDon’t Droid spots which highlighted the handsets limitations. Instead, the newest ads make a point of praising the iPhone while  taking to task AT&T’s coverage. Verizon’s two other ads: “ Blue ...

Verizon Banishes iPhone to Island of Misfit Toys
Digital Daily — If AT&T (T) took offense at Verizon’s “There’s a Map for That” ad campaign, wait until it gets a load of its rivals newest ad spots. Unfazed by AT&T’s litigious reply to its first effort, Verizon (VZ) rolled out a trio of new anti-AT&T ads over the weekend and they are brutal in their criticism of the carrier’s network coverage. All are Christmas-themed and all feature Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone, though they are careful to leave it unscathed by Verizon’s criticism of AT&T. The standout among the three, this recreation of the “Island of Misfit Toys” scene from the 1964 Rankin/Bass stop-motion ...

News: Verizon continues ad attacks on AT&T, iPhone
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond — Verizon is continuing to attack both AT&T and the iPhone with another new wave of TV advertisements. The most scathing spot, “ Misfit Toys ,” is based off the fictional Island of Misfit Toys as seen in the 1964 stop-animation holiday TV special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer , and sees an iPhone-like device arrive on the island to questions of why it was there when it can “download apps and browse the web,” with an AT&T 3G coverage map appearing above its head to explain the situation. AT&T 'Sets Record Straight' on Verizon Ads
Gearlog — As if a lawsuit wasn't enough, AT&T is now taking its fight against Verizon's ads to the court of public opinion. In an unusual statement, AT&T attempted to "set the record straight" with respect to Verizon's  ads campaigns, which have focused attention on the networks of the respective companies. Verizon's ads have shown 3G coverage maps from both networks, representing Verizon, naturally, in the most favorable light. In the most "Elves" spot, for example, note that the AT&T 3G map is decidedly less populated than the Verizon version. (My wife, viewing the ad last night, noted that the "Good luck ...
