Nes controller storage with security
Hack a Day —
[Joven] wrote in to show us his unique NES controller mod. He initially thought of just putting some flash storage in his controller like so many others. Then he got the idea to a security feature. You must first enter a code to access the memory. What code? Yes, that one. He chose the Konami code. As he ...
NES Controller Mod Unlocks With Pure Nostalgia [Mods]
Gizmodo —
The "security code" installed on this NES controller flash storage mod isn't going to keep anyone from accessing the files inside, but that's not really the point: You see, the code in this case is one of the most well-known codes in all of video game history. The Konami Code. Hell, even God knows it. Again, there's no real security here, but in any event it's miles ahead of what most people use to secure things that are really important to them. NES Controller Flash Drive Secured by Konami Code [Mods]
Kotaku —
[image] The list of NES case- and controller-mods we've seen covers just about everything imaginable, but Joe from the modder site Proto Dojo goes one better - making a USB drive unlockable by the Konami Code . As Joe and everyone who's seen this point out, that's rather like picking 1234 for your ATM PIN. Because the first thing anyone would do with an idle, disconnected NES controller is punch in the Konami Code out of boredom. Joe shows how it works, and so I assume the code can be changed up. But whatever its utility, it's damn cool and a triumph of mod ingenuity. [image] Retro Gamer Drive (Konami Code NES Controller Flash Drive) from ...
NES USB Drive with Security
Hacked Gadgets - DIY Tech Blog —
Joe from ProtoDojo has made a NES USB Drive with Security out of his old NES controller. Instead of simply hacking the device with a USB drive he wanted to use the controller buttons to add some extra security to the device. When the device is plugged into the computer nothing happens until you enter in the Konami code. When the code is entered in correctly a relay pulls in and applies power to the internal USB drive allowing it to be seen by the computer.

"It’s fairly straight forward. The arduino constantly polls the controller for button states. When you push a ...
DIY: Secure your data using the Konami code
CrunchGear —
Ahh the Konami code. Favorite cheat of gamers for years, it lives in legend and will never die. Much like that Rick Astley video. And while it might not be the most secure way to lock your data, it certainly raises your geek cred.
Since it’s all about the geek cred, one of the clever monkeys at Protodojo built a custom flash drive using an NES controller. Not content to just make a cool looking drive (and it is cool, no doubt) the intrepid builder also added a security feature that requires you to enter the aforementioned Konami code in order to access your data.

Encrypt Your Flash Drive With The Konami Code

When you’re a geek, you tend to be creative about the things you do. You like to pay homage to the nostalgic geekdom of your youth when you can. Take this awesome NES controller hack. Sure, we’ve all seen someone put a flash drive into a game controller, but this guy takes it to a whole new level. After all, what’s more nostalgic than the Konami Code?
Unlike ordinary flash drives, when you plug this one in, it won’t actually show up on your computer. That’s because the flash drive won’t actually get power until you enter the correct sequence of ...
