Motorola MILESTONE (aka GSM DROID) adds multitouch [Video]
SlashGear —
Having heard over the weekend that the GSM version of the Motorola DROID – the Motorola MILESTONE – would be landing in Europe later this month on carrier O2, Mobile-Review’s always-on-the-inside Eldar Murtazin has pushed out a video of the handset in action. As well as swapping the CDMA of the Verizon DROID by Motorola for GSM/UMTS, the new MILESTONE also gains multitouch support in Android 2.0.

We’re not sure why the European version of the DROID has multitouch and the US version doesn’t; Eldar ...
GSM DROID with multitouch pinch-to-zoom demoed on video
Engadget —
The GSM flavor of Motorola's DROID, or Milestone as it will be known in Europe, has multitouch built-in to the UI. For reasons we can only assume have something to do with an unspoken intellectual property agreement between Google and Apple, the US version of the user interface lacks multi-touch features like pinch-to-zoom ...

Video: Motorola Milestone (GSM Droid) found again, this time in Russia
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid fever has hit the team at IntoMobile, and our readers, ridiculously hard. We’re all enamored with the Motorola Droid for different reasons; some like the new Navigation application, some like the fact that it is running a more mature looking Android 2.0, the hard core among us know that it ...
Moto Droid heading to Europe as Milestone
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
The Moto Droid has been shown off in video as in a European-friendly flavour, and will now be coming to these shores as the Milestone. O2 pricing guides and catalogues in Germany have shown off the Milestone in full glory, meaning it's likely to be shortly announced in this territory. However, if it does come to the UK, it's unlikely to be from O2, with the network telling TechRadar: "We have no plans to range the Droid (or Milestone) in the UK". But in better news, there Droid / Milestone has been demoed on video, and it's packing pinch and zoom as well. Lifting the ban This means that the ...
GSM Motorola Droid (aka Milestone) Gets Multi-Touch Support!? [Droid]
Gizmodo —
Talk about unfair: this video appears to show that the GSM version of the Motorola Droid will support multi-touch gestures like pinch-zoom. The U.S version doesn't do multi-touch, even though Android 2.0 supports it, so what gives? Maybe it goes back to the whole multi-touch patent issue with Apple, I don't know. If it turns out the Milestone does indeed have multi-touch when it arrives on November 9, hopefully some sort of patch hack will make its way State-side. [Mobile-Review (translated) via SlashGear]

GSM Motorola Droid Sports Multitouch
Ubergizmo —
Most of you who have been following the news on Motorola’s Droid (or Milestone) should know by now that it doesn’t sport multi-touch. The surprisingly thing is, the GSM version of the device seems to have multi-touch, as can be seen in this video. It looks like the folks over in Europe will be getting a cooler version of the Motorola Droid, though we’re still very curious as to why the feature has been omitted here, could it be a licensing issue?

Motorota DROID será multitáctil en Europa
Gizmologia —

Droid Heads to Europe — Picks up Multitouch on the Way
jkOnTheRun —
The Motorola Droid is set to launch in the U.S. in just a few days, and a GSM version has already stormed the shores of Europe. One of the complaints that reviewers of the Verizon version have echoed is the lack of multitouch to provide pinch and zoom in the photo app and web browser. Android 2.0 does support multitouch, as can the Droid hardware, so the lack of pinch and zoom seems to be a conscious decision on someone’s part. The GSM version of the Droid, dubbed the Milestone, has gained multitouch in both the photo gallery app and the web browser. Could there be multitouch hope for the U.S. version on Verizon? ...
Moto Droid in Europe gets multi-touch
Electronista | The Macintosh News Network —
Motorola today confirmed an international version of the Droid that should also be the first Android phone with multi-touch. The Milestone uses a virtually identical design with an 854x480 touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi but switches to GSM, EDGE and HSPA for basic calls, 2G and 3G respectively. It currently doesn't support US 3G bands but should be available through at least O2 Germany ( PDF ) for the equivalent of $596 without a contract but with a discount. Notably, the Milestone in a pre-release test appears to have built-in multi-touch input for features like the web browser. While Android 2.0 ...

Daring Fireball —
Joshua Topolsky, writing for Engadget, gives the Droid a very positive review overall. But regarding something I’d been wondering about, here’s what he writes about multi-touch:
As you have probably heard (or guessed), there’s no multitouch on
this device. That’s clearly an issue with Android 2.0 and choices
that Google is making about user interface — we’re fairly certain
there’s nothing technically holding back the DROID from utilizing
multitouch input, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see some tweaked
ROMs hit the information superhighway with the functionality ...
European Motorola MILESTONE (Droid) Offers Multi-Touch
iSmashPhone - Turn your Phone into your MyPhone —
The GSM avatar of the Android based Motorola MILESTONE has something extra to offer than its CDMA cousins. European MILESTONE users will be able enjoy multi-touch capabilities, something which isn’t standard on the Android OS. Now why potential US users have been shortchanged remains a mystery but the MILESTONE still looks like a promising device (yes we are aware its Motorola) with features like a 5-megapixel camera, a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard . video after the fold. ...
