Google Search by voice travels the world, finds Nokia, learns Chinese
Google Mobile Blog —
(cross-posted with Official Google Blog) Google Search by voice has grown up quickly. Some might say that search by voice has matured from a toddler to a tween. It's certainly been traveling across the English-speaking world and getting better at understanding a range of accents, from the US, UK, India, and Australia. Today it's taking another big step — we're happy to announce that Google search by voice is available for Nokia S60 phones, and now understands Mandarin Chinese. Nokia S60 phones are popular around the world. If you have an Nseries or Eseries phone such as the N95 or E71, you're using S60. Many of these ...
Google Voice Search Now Understands Chinese
Mashable! —
iPhones, Android phones, and now Nokia phones (S60 models) all have the ability to run the Google Mobile App and conduct searches by voice.
The Nokia news comes by way of a Google blog post on the announcement and means that a whole new audience can search Google by talking instead of typing.
Another interesting development is that the search by voice feature for Nokia S60 devices can actually understand Mandarin Chinese. It’s the first language, other than English, that the Google Mobile App can supposedly decipher, though we currently have no way to test how accurate it is.
Apparently the ...
Google Search by voice available for S60, in Chinese too
Unwired View —
Google announced that the Google Search by voice feature is now available for Nokia’s Symbian S60 handsets. Integrated into the latest version of Google Mobile App, the feature lets you search for almost anything (from “restaurants” to “movie times” and so on) without having to type your queries.
Of course, if you prefer not to search by voice, you can always just type what you want to look for – there’s a shortcut that can be placed on your Nokia phone’s home screen for that.
Google also said that, from now on, Search by voice is available in Chinese Mandarin (the most spoken language in the world).

Google Adds Nokia S60s, Mandarin to Voice Search
AppScout —
Google on Monday extended the availability of its Google Search by voice offering to Nokia S60 handsets and added Mandarin Chinese as a language option.
"Many of these phones have 12-digit keypads -- good for making calls, but not so easy when you need to type a few words," Google wrote in a blog post. "Many of you have asked if we could build our search by voice feature for these phones, and we've been working on this feature for a while."
The Google Mobile App with voice search will work on Nokia S60 phones running version 3. Phone with the touch-screen version 5 are not yet ...
Google Search by voice now available for Nokia S60 handsets
Boy Genius Report —
It doesn’t get any better than being able to do stuff with your phone just by talking into it, and now Google is bringing that experience to Nokia S60 devices. For those of you with iPhones and BlackBerrys, you’re probably already pretty familiar with this feature available on the Google Mobile App. While it might not have as dominant a share in the U.S. as it does globally, Symbian devices are still number one worldwide. So, it only makes sense that this extremely convenient feature is added to the popular OS. After all, many S60 devices don’t have full QWERTY keyboards, so searching by manual input is still a pain in the rear. In ...
Nokia S60 Smartphones Get Google Search by Voice
Mobile Magazine —
My Nokia E71 has a full QWERTY keyboard, so I don’t have too much trouble typing things into the Google Mobile App to search for whatever I need. That said, some S60 phones don’t have keyboards and, even with those that do, some people don’t want to bother with typing. That’s why Search by Voice has finally made its way to Nokia.
Google Search by Voice has been available in the Google Mobile App for the iPhone and BlackBerry for a while, but folks with a Nokia smartphone have been left out in the cold. This is a shame, really, considering that the Nokia S60 platform is still among the most popular internationally.
In a nutshell, ...
Google Search by voice now speaks Chinese and works on Nokia S60 phones
D' Technology Weblog —
Google Search by voice has grown across English-speaking world and is now available in US, U.K., India, Australia and Mandarin Chinese, and is available for Nokia S60 phones. This new version of Google Mobile App places a shortcut to Google search on your Nokia phone's home screen, allowing you to search using your voice or by typing. You can search for anything — from "movie times", to "fish 'n chips", to "masala dosa." It doesn't matter if you're in London or Bangalore: we'll use your location to give you nearby results. And Google Mobile App shows search results in application, so you don't have to ...
Google Search by Voice now out
Ubergizmo —
Those who are rocking to Symbian S60-powered handsets from Nokia will finally be able to take advantage of Google Search by Voice, making searches a whole lot easier assuming the software algorithm gets your pronounciation right. After all, speaking to a device a long search phrase sure beats typing it via a keyboard. Interestingly enough, Google Mobile App will also recognize and support Mandarin Chinese, the most spoken language in the world at the moment (and for the forseeable future, of course).
