Minority Report OS Brought to Reality by the Guy Who Thought of It
Wired: Gadget Lab — On Monday we published a list of gadgets eerily similar to those that appeared in Minority Report. Now, Oblong Industries has produced a video (above) demonstrating a spatial operating system called G-speak, which mimics the film's famous gesture-based interface far more closely than Mgestyk Technologies' similar product. Oblong says its technology combines gesture reading, "recombinant networking, and real world pixels" to get that Minority Report effect. And Oblong claims the similarity to the film is no coincidence, as one of ...

G-speak is ‘Minority Report’ style OS, we always wanted
Gizmo Watch — We’ve seen a range of jaw-dropping models of interactive displays, yet we long to see some more. Since we saw Spielberg directed ‘Minority Report,’ wherein Tom Cruise and the other cops interacted with the glass displays with finger movements, we had been waiting for some technology of the like to make the main fray – out of the screens into reality someday. Finally we have a reason to believe, we are there, check out the video after the jump and you will know why? Oblong Industries has taken lead from the movie, in assistance with a science advisor from Speilberg’s crew (also a company creator), to develop a gesture reading interface, which would ...

Finally, a Minority Report-style media wall with full gesture control
DVICE Atom Feed — We compare a lot of things to Minority Report around here — since it's so damn cool and all — but most of the technology we come across simply approximates the almost ridiculous amount of gesture controls presented by the movie. Tom Cruise was spinning his hands, position his fingers every-which-way, and using iPhone-like pinch commands to manipulate all of the ghostly windows hovering before him. Well, I guess the guys over at Oblong Industries have been watching a lot of Minority Report, because so do they. The G-Speak is what the company calls a "spatial operating environment." The ...

Minority Report Gesture UI Is Now Really Real: G-Speak [Minority Report]
Gizmodo — Un-frickin-believable: there've been a few pretenders, but it looks like this new G-Speak system is really the Minority Report UI made into science-faction. It even has gloves something akin to Tom Cruise's natty controllers from the film, and it lets you do the whole arms waving in the air, drag items between screens, object-oriented interface control. Though you might not have Tom's trademark piercing stare while you're at it. And if you think, "holy crap, that really is like the film!" then here's the reason: maker Oblong Industrie—who dub G-Speak a "gesture-based interface ...

G-Speak Minority Report Gesture UI Actually Made By Minority Report Designer [Minority Report]
Gizmodo — Un-frickin-believable: there've been a few pretenders, but it looks like this new G-Speak system is really the Minority Report UI made into science-faction;it's made by one of the guys who actually worked on advising the Minority Report movie. It even has gloves something akin to Tom Cruise's natty controllers from the film, and it lets you do the whole arms waving in the air, drag items between screens, object-oriented interface control. Oblong’s g-speak spatial operating interface brings Minority Report UI to life
CrunchGear — g-speak overview 1828121108 from john underkoffler on Vimeo. After having seen the above video you will undoubtedly make direct comparisons to what was seen in Minority Report, and that’s no coincidence. John Underkoffler, one of Oblong’s co-founders, was the science advisor on the film and built much of what we saw in the movie from what he was working on at MIT. The gesture-based g-speak “spatial operating interface” (SOE) software platform has been in development at MIT’s Media Laboratory since the early 1990s and its intended use isn’t as nerdy as we’d expect. ...

g-speak spatial operating environment
Hack a Day — Our fascination with multitouch is fairly well known, but it expands even further to cover all sorts of man machine interaction. Embedded above is a tech demo of g-speak, a spatial operating environment. The user combines gestures and spatial location to interact with on ...

Tech Watch: The Minority Report Computer Is Real
Fast Company - Technology — If you saw Minority Report , you probably saw the multi-screen, gesture-based interface that Tom Cruise uses to pull up police files and though, “That's cool. But I'll never live to see that thing invented.” Then you might have seen Microsoft demo its Surface ...

Touchless UI
SolSie.com — Touchless UI Apple revolutionizes the Touch UI with the iPhone, but this might be soon the technology from the past. A new way to interact with the computer just popped up on the Blogosphere, showing gesture interaction remotely with a computing device. The technology called g-speak. Spacial Computing from Oblong
Gadget Venue — If you remember the Tom Cruise film, Minority Report, you will remember the famous scenes where Tom was at a computer display moving various videos around by waving his hands in front of it. A company named Oblong took this idea and ran with it by creating a spatial operating system which looks fantastic. The video shows what can be done with this type of operating system. It actually looks very cool and the operation is very smooth. To move data about you simply move your hands (wearing special gloves) and the data can be thrown across two screens, zoomed in and manipulated in many other ...

In Depth: MIT projects that are set to revolutionise your life
Techradar - All the latest technology news — Scientists often get a hard time from technophobes - not least because some of their research stems from the university of the bleedin' obvious. But over at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) there's plenty of real work being done - resulting in technologies, concepts and techniques that really could change the way you live work and play. Here are some great recent examples. 1,000GHz computers, anyone? Scientists at MIT have developed an experimental microchip that uses graphene - a material made from pure carbon. Graphene enabled the scientists to use frequency multiplier technology ...
