Boing Boing —
Stagueve sez, "Ben Heck just finished his new project, a gorgeous Commodore 64 Laptop:"
This project somehow has the distinction of being both the longest and fastest portable electronics project I have ever done. I originally started making a C64 laptop in the fall of 2006, and kept pecking away at it every so often. Finally, a few weeks ago, I said "screw it" and started over.

C64 in a laptop case: Benheck has outdone himself
CrunchGear —
Mr. Benheck has done it again. He dumped a fully-working Commodore 64 inside a laptop case that looks like it came out of a copy of Byte magazine circa 1989. He began by shaving down all the extraneous ports and inputs and even pulled off the power supply, making something that was 15″x10.5″. He then stuff it in with a 15″ LCD screen and then stuffed in a real C64 keyboard.
Then he blew our minds by adding in an SD card reader and firing up Golden Axe. True genius. Watch the video to see how fun this guy really is.

Commodore C64 Laptop - By Ben Heck
The Commodore C64 Laptop has been created. The laptop is a fully functioning C64 that was around in the 80’s. It has been embedded in to a laptop sized case and had a 15″ screen added too.
The C64 laptop has received an upgraded drive in the form of an SD card slot. The SD card slot actually emulates the old floppy drive. A cartridge slot can be found in there as well as a couple of speakers although sound output is mono for the C64.
It is unclear at the ...
The Anti-DSi: Commodore 64 Laptop [Mods]
Gizmodo —
We were a little more technically impressed with Ben Heck squeezed an Xbox 360 into a laptop case, but his new Commodore 64 laptop scores at least a few points for nostalgia. The laptop houses original Commodore 64 hardware, including less convenient throwbacks like the cartridge reader and keyboard (though the keyboard has been chiseled down a bit). Upgrades include the new 80stastic case, a slew of LEDs, one Nokia LCD, two speakers and an SD slot to load game images. Oh, and another neat factoid: The laptop uses a Gamecube power supply. Commodore 64 Gets Turned Into a Laptop
Alice Hill's Real Tech News - Independent Tech —
c64laptop.jpg By Michael Santo Editor-in-Chief, RealTechNews Ben Heckendorn’s (BenHeck) is probably best known for stuffing the innards of an Xbox 360 into laptops, but here he’s taken one of the best-loved PCs of the 80s and done the same. Time to party like it’s 1982. To be exact, this is his second attempt; he scrapped the first attempt and took only 1 1/2 weeks to complete the new C64 laptop. Yes, there was an Osborne-ish C64 portable before, the SX-64 , but that was hardly a laptop. This is no MacBook Air, but it would definitely fit in your lap. He kept the original C64 keyboard because, as he said, “80’s computers ...
Commodore 64 laptop
Hack a Day —
[Ben Heck] has just completed one of his more unique laptop game consoles. This time around it’s a Commodore 64, which he’s been attempting since 2006. Recently he scrapped everything and started fresh on what turned out to be the fastest build yet. While it certainly looks similar to his other laptops, he put in a ...
Ben Heck Goes Back to the 1980s with Commodore 64 Laptop
Wired: Gadget Lab —
Ben Heck (aka Benjamin J Heckendorn aka The Hackendorn) has topped himself, again, and we don’t mean that in the suicidal sense. His latest project is a Commodore 64 laptop.
After endless procrastination, Ben finally got started and completed the project in an astonishingly short week and a half. Inside the rather slick and beautifully retro box is an original C64 motherboard, a Gamecube power supply and a piece of hardware called a 1541-III, which tricks the C64 into seeing an SD card as a floppy drive.
You really need to check the video (below) to see the machine in action (despite the SD cards, the game ...
