Unofficial G1 auto-rotation in the works
Engadget Mobile —
The G1's got its fair share of accelerometers -- one need only pop open compass mode in Street View to figure that out -- but one thing it doesn't have is screen auto-rotation. That's where the ever-vigilant developer community comes into play, and Google's all's-fair policy toward ...
New software enables auto-rotation in the G1
Boy Genius Report —
The beauty of an open source platform is that it can be modified and expanded to support all sorts of new features. Last week we saw that the G1 could be hacked to accept multi-touch input. This week it is auto-rotation, a feature that the G1 and its accelerometer does not support out of the box. Rather than wait for Google to enable this feature, a developer modified the G1 source code to enable auto-rotation and has released the hack in his G1 Tweak Tools software package. The auto-rotation appears smooth and responsive and works both on the home screen and within applications. Sweet!

T-Mobile G1 auto screen rotation app now available
Android Authority —
[image] Praise be to the gods of open source. It appears that some smart fella has put together an app for the T-Mobile G1 that handles automatic screen rotation based on the accelerometer instead of only rotating the screen when the keyboard is exposed. Sweet. That should make a lot of folks happy as they are web browsing and doing other things on their G1s. Better yet, the app also gives you a way to reboot your phone or to remount the Linux /system directory as read/write or read-only - something useful for people digging around a bit more than the typical user. The needed software is available from the DroidSans website . You can see a video of the app ...
T-Mobile G1 Auto Rotate Function Demonstrated
Ubergizmo —
Ooops, with Thanksgiving and all, I missed the G1 auto-rotate post that our sister-site Uberphones had posted yesterday. As strange as it might seem, this was missing from the original release. I should hopefully be available soon, but I have not seen any download. Stay tuned!

G1 Auto Screen Rotation Fix (UnOfficial)
Android Phone Fans —
Nearly every tool, utility and application that we’ve tested has a fairly standard list of complaints and among them are the fact that (1) When you open the keyboard, your “place” in the application is lost and, (2) When you change the direction you are holding the screen, its orientation does not change.
Now, thanks to some clever developers, the latter of those irritations can be crossed off the list. By downloading and running a file on your G1 you can implement Auto Screen Rotation! It currently works with RC29 and RC30 but I’m sure they’ll release an update once RC31 is released: ...
G1 Auto-Rotation Coming Soon?
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis —
If you own a T-Mobile G1, you certainly know that the screen orientation already changes from portrait to landscape when you slide out the keyboard. That said, the screen will not rotate when you simply turn the device in your hand… even though the accelerometer on-board is there to make this feature possible (you would think!?).
Good news is a hack…er… update is already being worked on that will rotate the screen for you. In the video above, you’ll notice that when the device is turned, the screen turns… Turn it back to its original orientation, and it turns back. Simple. But ...
