LG's VX9600 Versa phone makes its debut before the camera

LG VX9600 Versa First Shots
Ubergizmo — We have been keeping an eye on the LG VX9600 ever since it was spotted on the FFC website, but the phone makes its first photo appearance (more phoros here), courtesy of howardforums' user "Shady_Soldier". As you can see, the phone can be a display-only or a QWERTY device, thanks to its modular approach. The keyboard can be detached and replaced by another module, like a game controller or speakers (more are on the way). Given that it was at the FXX in September, a spring/summer release might not be out of question. Permalink: LG VX9600 Versa First Shots from Ubergizmo (US, ...

LG VX9600 Versa is super modular, super caught on camera
MobileCrunch — ... one point or another: “Instead of having to decide between handsets with QWERTY and those without, why not just make the keyboard detachable?” Unfortunately, the majority of us aren’t major handset manufacturers with the power to make such things happen, so the idea slipped back into the “Things I wish other people would make” bank, along with lightsabers and practical jetpacks. This morning, when Snap315 posted images of the LG VX9600 Versa to HowardForums, this oft-dreamed about concept took its first big step toward becoming a reality. ...

First Shots of LG VX9600 Versa Tease Detachable Keyboard [Unconfirmed]
Gizmodo — ... LC VX9600, a touchscreen smartphone with modular components. The LC VX9600 (sporting a Verizon logo here) tempts us with the prospect of a detachable QWERTY keyboard, which would allow you to slim down your phone's packaging when heavy emailing wasn't in your near future. Beyond QWERTY, we may see other modular components as well, including gamepads and speakers. It's like something we might see from Bug Labs, but fully functional without knowledge of JAVA coding. First shots of the modular LG VX9600 Versa with detachable keyboard
IntoMobile - Cell Phone News, Information, and Analysis — Last we saw, the Verizon-bound LG VX9600’s UI had been leaked for all the web to see. The UI looked to be finger-friendly enough to make good use of the LG VX9600’s touchscreen base module. But, we had yet to lay eyes on the actual LG VX9600 hardware. Today, we not only get our first look at the LG VX9600’s modular design, but we also learn that Verizon (NYSE: VZ) will be launching the handset as the Verizon LG VX9600 “Versa” (as in “versatile,” get it?). The Verizon LG Versa will apparently launch with a bundled detachable QWERTY keyboard that resembles a gutted electronic ...

Verizon’s LG VX9600 Versa shows its weird face
Unwired View — Verizon Wireless customers, get ready to welcome one of the weirdest handsets you’ve ever seen: LG VX9600 Versa. The device has just appeared in a couple of shots, over at Howard Forums. And, well, it looks more than interesting.  At a first sight, you could mistake the VX9600 Versa for a normal touchscreen handset (like, say, an LG Dare – which is available from Verizon since last year). But this new LG comes with stuff like a detachable QWERTY keyboard, a detachable gamepad, a Wi-Fi module and external speakers. ...

LG VX9600 images leak: Detachable QWERTY confirmed
SlashGear — Images of the upcoming LG VX9600 smartphone for Verizon Wireless have leaked, confirming the handset’s innovative detachable QWERTY keyboard.  The VX9600 is normally a standard touchscreen device, with a large interface and minimal hardware buttons, but when a user wishes to enter large quantities of text a snap-on QWERTY keyboard can be added. Other modules reportedly in development include a gamepad attachment, a stereo speaker attachment for using the VX9600 as a media player, and an internet attachment that would add WiFi capabilities.  In this way, the VX9600 could have the usability of previous clamshell LG ...

LG has 'modular' VX9600 Versa in the works
Tech Digest — ... need dictate the phone you're getting, before usability, software and design even come into it. That's why I'm quite excited by the VX9600 Versa, which promises to be 'modular', meaning you'll be able to plug in whatever features you want when you need them. In the image above, you can see a plug-in QWERTY keyboard and gamepads and stereo speakers are rumoured too. Sounds promising, but there's absolutely no ship date yet, so the chances of this appearing in the near future are slim. Howard Forums (via ...

New LG Phone for Verizon Offers Snap-On Keyboard [jkOnTheRun]
GigaOM Network — Sometimes a phone manufacturer can’t win. They design a hardware keyboard on a phone only to find out that people want a software keyboard on it. The next time around, they go without the keyboard and everyone complains about how difficult it is for text entry. Maybe LG has it right by playing both sides of the fence? That’s what they appear to be doing with the VX9600 for Verizon Wireless based on this shot from Howard Forums. The handset offers a full touchscreen for your tapping pleasure, but also works with a snap-on QWERTY keypad to speed up your thumbs. It’s probably more ...
