One alert blogger noticed that promotional Microsoft fluff bundled with a new PC talks about organizing photos and videos on a Windows PC, but the PICTURE SHOWS A MACBOOK PRO. Let me explain this. Companies like Microsoft either buy stock photos or hire designers, who hire photographers and orchestrate the photo shoots. Designers are Mac users, and most have never actually seen Windows or PCs. To the design community, PCs = Macs and Macs = PCs.

The above is a scan of some Windows Vista promotional material. But, is that an old MacBook Pro this perfect family is using? Now, Apple doesn’t have a monopoly on silver laptops chassis but wouldn’t it have been wiser to have something more distinctly PC?
Or what about this? These sure do look like PS3 controllers, but again, there are plain ol’ PC controllers that resemble PlayStation controllers. Surely someone at the Vista marketing department must know that the Xbox 360 controllers work perfectly ...

... is not likely to promote its own rival's products in their own marketing brochure. So the blame should goes to the software maker's creative agency that created the booklet using stock images, without paying a closer look at them.
Microsoft should reconsider paying too much to the creative agencies it is using to make that booklet, this proves how ineffective it is the huge pile of money Microsoft throwing to create a better image of Windows Vista. ;-p
