Acquisition Dance Between Facebook And Twitter Over For Now?
TechCrunch — ... or about an impending deal breaking down. But this time, Kara Swisher over at BoomTown offers a bit of insight about the deal size. According to Kara (and her sources), Facebook was offering $500 million of its stock at the infamous (and ridiculous) ...

Acquisition Talks Between Facebook And Twitter Break Down
mocoNews — ... So, Twitter still believes they can figure out how to generate some revenues. Kara Swisher is reporting that the rumors between Facebook acquiring Twitter were not only true, but that talks broke down three weeks ago between the microblogging company and Facebook. The social net was offering to acquire the company for $500 million of its stock, but Twitter execs and investors apparently believe the company should "take a shot" at building revenues "as well as it [has] done building its growth" and not just jump at the first chance it got to sell ...

Twitter Rejects $500 Million Takeover Offer From Facebook
Silicon Alley Insider — ... At Facebook's real valuation, $5 billion or so, the offer only amounted to $150 million (not bad for two-year old company with no revenue, but a far cry from the billion-dollar dream) Twitter has high hopes for its own secret revenue model which will be announced next year. Twitter's investors aren't stupid: They wanted cash. Facebook presumably doesn't have that much cash to spare. Is Twitter worth $500m?
Geek In Disguise — Wow…quite a story from Kara Swisher today that Facebook was interested in buying Twitter for $500m. Okay, I love Twitter as much as anyone but $500m is a big chunk of cash for something that isn’t making money at the moment. That’s not to say that it couldn’t and I think the only way Twitter is going is up but in the current climate, that’s a big wedge. Personally I think Twitter is right to hold out but hope it’s all a big game of Russian roulette.

Twitter Declines Acquisition Deal From Facebook
WebProNews Feed — ... Says "no thanks" to $500 million in stock There are probably more than a few sighs of relief being breathed inside MySpace's offices this morning. A new report indicates that an attempted acquisition of Twitter by Facebook has failed. According to Kara Swisher and "sources on both sides," "About three weeks ago, Facebook and Twitter ended several weeks of serious talks . . ." A full $500 million - in the form of Facebook's stock - was on the table. Twitter hasn't made much of an attempt to earn revenue, however, which likely means that its bank accounts and relationships ...

A Dealmaker’s Take on the Facebook/Twitter Non-Deal: Madness
WatchMojo.com Business & Technology — What to make of this rumor that Facebook was about to acquire Twitter for $500M in stock? 1 - Facebook did not want to do this deal, if it did, it would not offer $500M of stock at a $15B valuation when everyone now pegs Facebook’s value at $5B most.  After all, most media companies are at 33-50% off their year-ago prices.  Facebook would be no different.  Even at the time, MSFT never said “We think Facebook is worth $15B”, it was a deal to mark its territory and if those were Facebook’s rules of engagement, it was worth it to ...

Twitter Sounds Like a Good Fit for Facebook
Technologizer — ... News has surfaced from Kara Swisher at AllThingsDigital about apparent talks that had been ongoing between Twitter and Facebook. Under the discussed terms, Facebook would have acquired the micro-blogging site for $500 million in Facebook stock. Facebook initiated the talks in mid-October, but they seemed to have broken off sometime around the beginning of this month. The reasons for the breakdown in talks was the typical merger concerns over integration and whatnot. However, it also appears as if some within Twitter wanted to first try to build up the revenue side of their ...

Twitter is smart to reject Facebook and go it alone
Between the Lines — ... Talks between Facebook and Twitter have broken down, Kara Swisher reports in a post on the Boomtown blog today, and - on the surface - it looks like the dividing issue was money. (Isn’t it always?) It's a good thing Facebook's not buying Twitter
Webware.com — ... Twitter and Facebook seem like a nice match, don't they. It was no surprise that rumors started about a Facebook acquisition of Twitter. It was hardly a shocker when the rumors turned out to be true. But it's good that the talks fell apart. (Story source: Kara Swisher: When Twitter met Facebook.) Let me get this on the record: I love Twitter. From the day that my friend Dan Bricklin showed me Pyra I’ve been watching Ev and his team at Pyra, Odeo, and then Twitter I have been a big fan of those product guys. Twitter was wise to reject Facebook’s $500 million all-stock acquisition offer.
Fast Company - TechnologyAccording to Kara Swisher , about three weeks ago Twitter rejected a deal in which Facebook offered to acquire it for $500 million of its stock, which also included a cash component. Swisher reports that the deal broke down for a number of reasons, perhaps the most prominent of which was timing: " Well, as is usually the case, (the deal falthered) over price–was $500 million worth of Facebook stock actually worth $500 million?–and the typical concerns about integration and costs. But, more important, it seems, was a feeling among Twitter investors and execs that the start-up ...

Twitter Trails Facebook in Traffic
Internet Evolution: — ... , it would take Twitter 36 years (in human time) to catch up to where Facebook is today in terms of site growth. Well. Everyone loves a good chart. Especially one that looks like the above, where there's a clear difference in traffic on two sites regularly making headlines. But do we really expect a site like Twitter to match up to Facebook in traffic? Like, ever? It's not logical. And while Twitter turned down a $500 million deal (in stock) to be acquired by Facebook in early November, it only makes sense that at some point Twitter, which has no business model and ...

Breaking down the walled garden: Some thoughts on Facebook embracing OpenID and opening up status update APIs
Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life — ... Twitter has shown the value of having open APIs for link sharing and status updates which isn't lost on Facebook given their failed attempt to acquire Twitter. Sharing status updates is a powerful way for humans to connect in social contexts and given Facebook's goal to be the world's social operating system we can expect them to make more moves in this space. It's particularly interesting to see how people use status updates as a way to communicate and share experiences during news events such as President Obama's inauguration. Facebook saw this first hand with their ...

Facebook and Twitter: There’s blood everywhere, but no one is dying
VentureBeat — ... hate to reuse my twisting of the catch phrase from the old Highlander films, but I feel compelled to remind everyone once again: There can be more than one. Everyone is all worked up about Facebook killing Twitter now because it opened its application programming interfaces (APIs) a bit more to allow for status updates from Facebook to be passed through to other sites. This is an especially sexy claim to make right now because Facebook made an offer to buy Twitter back in November, which Twitter turned down. Facebook is obviously ...

Facebook Snaps Up FriendFeed
Technologizer — ... . The deal involves FriendFeed living on as a standalone site for now, but it sounds like the long-term idea is to build new FriendFeed-like features and technologies into Facebook itself.
