New Safari – loads of new features
MacFormat RSS feed —
Apple has thrown up a new beta version of Safari, packed with what look like some very sweet features. The style sheet of the page at Apple is misbehaving a bit for me, with the layout most uncharacteristically screwy, but it's worth having a poke around and seeing what's new. Me, I'm looking forward to the full history search, though the under the hood stuff with CSS support and JavaScript looks very promising.

(Find out more, that is, if you can forgive Apple this line from the main Safari page: "It’s a browser. It’s a ...

... Safari is one of the less successful products from Apple, but the company is still moving forward with the release of Safari 4 Beta for Mac OS X and Windows. The improvements? Better Javascript support, faster page loading (compared to competitors IE and FF), HTML5, CSS3 and the Clover Flow history user interface that most people have seen used in iTunes to browser albums (complete list of new stuff). If you want to try it, head to the ...
Apple makes available Safari 4 beta
Tech Digest —
... They haven't stolen anything from IE, but is there anything worth stealing there? They've also added a cover-flow style interface for browsing through your bookmarks too. Pretty, but a little pointless? Interesting, Safari 4's default UI on Windows looks like Windows, unlike previous versions where it looked like OSX. That's a pretty significant change for a company that usually prides itself on its design. If you want to try it out, it's available from Apple's website right now. Safari 4 (via ...

... the stupid address bar and gained a smart address bar. What this means is that you can type in a phrase or word, and Safari will finally work like every other web browser. Under the hood it seems stable and usable, but keep in mind it is a beta. I have done a lot to it including wringing all of Google's apps through it and it has yet to crash on both my MacBook and my HP Tablet. This is something I could not say for Safari 3 or Firefox 3. So far, so good; I like it. Head over to Apple to download the beta for yourself.

I've been using Safari 4.0 for a full day now and really love it. The speed is amazing but it's the user interface improvements that clinch the deal for me. Here is a quick overview of the new features http://www.apple.com/safari/whats-new.html Firefox still holds one advantage with its extension engine but there is no reason that you can't run two browsers and use Firefox when you need one of those extensions. It's the Top Sites gallery display of thumbnails of your favorite (or most frequently visited) web sites that I like best. To fully appreciate this feature you need to ...
February Blog Bits: From Safari 4 to iPhone Headsets
The Mac Observer —
... on February 25th, 2009 at 2:56 PM It's time for another edition of Blog Bits. This is where I gather several items, each one too brief to merit an entry of its own, and combine them into a single blog posting. Safari 4: Top Sites and tabs. Safari 4 (beta) is now available. I truly like the new Top Sites feature. I find it a great way to access and keep up with the latest updates to my most frequently visited sites. However, I really dislike that Tabs have been moved to the top of the window. For starters, whenever a Safari window is in the background and I want to make it the ...
New poll - Where should Safari's tab bar reside?
MacOSXHints.com —
The release of Safari 4 Beta came with one quite-controversial new feature: tabs on top, ala Google's Chrome. My colleague Dan Frakes discusses some of the pros and cons of this move, but I thought I'd ask the macosxhints readers, via this new poll, what they thought of the change in the tab bar's location. Note that I'm only offering two choices for the tab bar in this poll -- up top as in Safari 4, or back where it was in Safari 3. While it might be interesting to find out how many people prefer a vertical on-the-side tab bar (as in OmniWeb), I'm mostly ...

... Then there’s the fact that while most chatter about Safari’s speed involves JavaScript, Apple has also published results for the i-Bench HTML benchmark.
