Just in case you had any doubts left in your mind that Sony was preparing to launch a new mobile device, the company has posted a teaser for a “VAIO New Mobile” on its Japanese home page. The Flash ad shows a woman pulling something out of her bag that appears to be the size of an envelope. It’s also the size of her handbag, which makes me wonder if she has room for anything else in there, like maybe her keys and money?

... but it appears the laptop is truly different. Sony recently put up a teaser flash video on its Japanese website, which shows a woman removing Vaio from her small purse. In the end, the notebook goes into a "manila envelope". Going by the video, the latest VAIO will be an extremely thin notebook sporting a form factor which might be smaller compared to traditional ultra portables. The firm plans to display its newest innovation during upcoming CES, so wait till then!

It's a pretty but indistinct image that feeds its promise to "change the way you look at laptops" next month: no screen, keyboard or other features are even clear. Nothing is clear yet but the rectangular shape of the device points out at a netbook in the offing.
