... indicate that everyone on the plane might be okay. While the mainstream media was quick to jump on the story, so too, as is the case these days, was Twitter.
Even more amazing though may be the picture that Janis Krums, a man on one of the first rescue boats on the scene took. The picture (right) was taken with his iPhone and sent via Twitter to the service TwitPic, a third-party service which a lot of Twitter users use to send pictures to their contacts.
Krums tweeted:

I’m on the ferry going to pick up the people. Crazy.” The tweet also contained a picture. ...

... of the plane crash in the Hudson was taken on a mobile phone, and uploaded to Twitter. The photographer was one Janis Krums, and he was on one of the ferries used to rescue the passengers from the stricken plane. Although you could say he was in the right place at the right time, the quality of the photo is pretty damn good as well - well framed, and with plenty of detail. On a side note, though - you've got to wonder if it's the first class passengers that are on the raft, while the economy plebs have to stand on the wing... ...
Twitter breaks the news of flight 1549 crash
Obsessable News Feed —
... Jim Hanrahan used a web social service called Twitter to say to his friends "I just watched a plane crash into the hudson rive[r] in manhattan" using TwitterBerry on his BlackBerry. His tweet came almost fifteen minutes before the mainstream media started reporting the crash to the public, and for all intents and purposes "broke the news" of the plane's emergency landing.
A few minutes later, another Twitter user Janis Krums was on one of the ferries diverted to the crash site and uploaded pictures of the scene as they ...

We're putting together the final submissions, and while we have a great supply of magazine writing to choose from, the blogosphere pile seems a little thin to me. So I thought it might be a nice end-of-year exercise for all of us to think back on the blog posts from 2008 that most intrigued and inspired us. Slightly longer posts will be more likely to make it into the collection, but who knows -- perhaps there's a particularly momentous tweet that deserves a place in the 2009 book. Obviously, posts that originated here at BoingBoing will have ...
