A Week Inside T-Mobile's G1
Fast Company - Technology —
12:18 pm | 3 recommendations | 1 comment A Week Inside T-Mobile's G1 | posted by Lynne d Johnson The e-mail from the account director at Waggener Edstrom Worldwide that arrived last Tuesday, began: "I wanted to give you a heads up that I have a T-Mobile G1 review unit for you. I plan to send it out for Friday delivery." After agreeing to an NDA not to share any information about the device until the 16th, and drawing straws with my co-worker for which one of us would get it first, I realized that I'd be spending the entire weekend with the new love of my life. That weekend eventually became a week, and here's ...
Android vs. iPhone: Which Does a Better Job Syncing to the Cloud?
Top iPhone News —
The Reviews of the Android G1 Phone on T-Mobile are out and the verdicts are generally as follows: Partly Cloudy1, but forecasting big things to come. We’re not going to try to hit every point just yet, but there’s one point where this “Sidekick for Grownups” has what appears to be a real advantage over everybody else: dead-simple cloud setup.
So compared to the iPhone, just how good is the setup on the G1? The answer is: Depends on whether or not you’re a Gmail type of person.
Yeah, “depends” isn’t exactly a clear ...

Can My Mac and T-Mobile G1 (Google Android) Phone Sync?
O'Reilly Media: Mac and iPhone —
My T-Mobile G1 phone based on Google's Android platform arrived on Monday. It was a big change for me because I've been using Windows Mobile based smartphones since 2002 when I started with the very first T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition. Since Android phones sync directly with Google Calendar and Gmail Contacts, this also meant switching away from Microsoft Outlook on my old Windows XP PC. Given this big change, I thought it might be interesting to see if I could sync Contacts and Calendar with my Mac. One of my goals was to only use tools provided by Apple or Google. I wanted to avoid trust issues involved with using ...
Google Calendar CalDAV/iCal syncing now official
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Internet ToolsAlthough the plumbing has been in place since the summer, it's always nice to have an official announcement, and now we do: Google has gone on the record with its support for CalDAV syncing from iCal to Google Calendar. You can now gracefully sync your editable Google calendars with your (Leopard-only) iCal, keeping a local copy of those events in the cloud. Granted, both BusySync (which adds Bonjour-based iCal synchronization between Macs) and SpanningSync (which includes Address Book --> Google contact sync) have been handling ...

MobileMe renewal: Yes or no?
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Internet, Internet Tools, MobileMeEarlier this week, I noticed that the calendars on my Mac and my iPhone weren't in sync. "More MobileMe nonsense," I thought. However, I soon found the culprit, and it wasn't MobileMe acting wonky. My account had expired, and I was within the 15 day grace period. I saw the "Renew" button and reached for my wallet like a well-trained Pavlov iDog. Then something stopped me. "Do I really want to do this?" There are so many alternatives that offer nearly the same services. Calling upon my days as a used car salesman (true ...

Spanning Sync gets updated
Macworld —
by Jim Dalrymple , Macworld.com Spanning Sync , a utility that syncs information between the Mac, iPhone and Google, has been updated to version 2.1.3. According to the company, the updated version fixed a rare crash that could occur with the application. Spanning Sync provides support for Apple’s built-in Address Book and iCal, as well as Google Apps, so you can sync across multiple computers and devices. Spanning Sync 2.1.3 is available from the ...

Years ago, one of the criticisms lobbed at the Mac platform was that when it comes to software, there just isn’t much out there.
Any Mac user will know that that stopped being true a long time ago, but in the last five or six years especially, the Mac as a platform has undergone a sort of software renaissance. Not only are the big mainstream programs available for the Mac (with the exception of games, where Windows still consistently rules the roost), but independent software developers have put out some of the most spectacular software available for any platform — much of it only ...
Google Sync Gets Gmail Push Support
TechWeb —
Google has updated Google Sync , its synchronization service for contacts and calendar events, to include Gmail support on iPhone, iPod Touch and Windows Mobile devices. "Using Google Sync, you can now get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your phone," said Google Mobile software engineer Douglas Gresham in a blog post . "Having an over-the-air, always-on connection means that your inbox is up to date, no matter where you are or what you're doing. Sync works with your phone's native e-mail application so there's no additional software needed." Google ...
