Spring Design Alex comes out to play and show off Marvell's Armada chip
Engadget —
... Spring Design's Alex as a way of showing off their new Armada chip, which claims a faster three frames per second refresh rate along with the usual assorted reductions in cost and power consumption. Maximum PC got the opportunity to see the Alex first-hand at the meeting, and note that while it's definitely thicker than the kindle (blame goes to the larger battery and second screen, naturally), it's a smart little device. CrunchGear —
... Now to be fair, the Alex only has a frame rate of 3 FPS. But when you compare it to other readers, that have a rate of (generally) 0 FPS, you’re talking a significant improvement. The small screen is also capacitive and can make use of the majority of Android’s features such as being able to show photo galleries, video and use an on-screen keyboard for text entry.
Overall it appears to be an impressive device from Spring Design. Via: MaximumPC

Alex Reader Hands-On Lusty Pictures [Ebook]
Gizmodo —
... Maximum PC got their hands on one, and liked it very much, from the capacitative screen—running Android—that can play video to the onscreen keyboard. The only thing they didn't like is that it is thicker than Kindle. Who cares about a few millimeters when you get more usability in return? I don't. And I like them curvy. [Maximum PC] ...
