JVC Blu-ray to offer hi-res MKV file support
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
JVC's debut Blu-ray disc player, the XV-BP1, looks likely to be the first from a major Japanese brand to offer hi-def MKV file playback support as part of its multimedia functionality. It joins LG's BD370 (which it appears to be related to), in also offering buyers the ability to play back DivX and MPEG-4 content from USB. The model is Profile 2.0 compliant, and is compatible with AVCHD encodings, along with a wide range of home-brew media (BD-ROM, BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD+R DL and CD-R/CD-RW). Standard Blu-ray specification highlights include1080p24 playback with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream output. Via Home Cinema ...
Marantz releases Blu-ray player for the minted
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
High-end AV manufacturer Marantz has announced the arrival of its latest Blu-ray player, the hideously expensive UD9004. While the press release insists that the Profile 2.0 player will offer professional broadcast quality playback, we can't help but shudder at its £5,500 price tag. To be fair, it's mostly jealousy. If you have got money to burn, then the UD9004 is a machine of exceptional quality. Inside is 10-bit processing, pixel by pixel conversion, detail enhancement and noise reduction be standard. SACD playback Also, the UD9004 runs discs at 1080/24p picture and uses something called AV Pure Direct mode which completely cuts out signal ...
Panasonic DMP-B15
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
Why would anyone want a portable Blu-ray player? Answer: when it's as good as Panasonic's one-of-a-kind DMP-B15. Those looking to exploit the hi-def format with a huge plasma or projector will doubtless balk at the idea of its tiny 8.9in LCD screen, but that view rather misses the point. What Panasonic has produced is a fully featured player that just happens to be portable. Plug it into an HD Ready TV and serve up some cutting-edge 1080p pictures, and it could easily operate both as your main Blu-ray deck and a portable home entertainment system. No wonder it costs an arm and a leg. Feature rich Panasonic is fanatical about Blu-ray, and it ...
Exclusive: ITV seeks "satisfactory solution" for Blu-ray recording confusion
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
Users of Panasonic's new Freesat/Blu-ray recorders have noticed that they are some hefty restrictions on what they can and cannot record on to Blu-ray disc, especially when it comes to content broadcasted on ITV. In fact, according to Home Cinema Choice, all content on ITV is currently flagged as Copy Never. In contrast, the BBC has branded its content Copy Once, so users can burn BBC HD programmes on to Blu-ray disc for personal archiving purposes. Meeting terms TechRadar spoke to ITV about this matter, and the broadcaster is aware of the situation and is currently working to combat the issue. An ITV spokesman told us: "We are talking ...
No 3D for Monsters Vs Aliens on DVD and BD
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
The animated smash Monsters Vs Aliens is coming to DVD and Blu-ray this autumn, but we won't be getting the 3D version of the film. The DreamWorks Animation film was a big hit at cinemas in its 3D incarnation, with stereoscopic screenings accounting for a whopping 58 per cent of the film's US box office takings during its opening weekend. However, speaking to Home Media Magazine, DreamWorks Animation Chief Ann Daly has revealed that the existing anaglyph technology for home use isn't able to replicate the technology used to create the 3D version of the film. 'The movie itself was developed with the notion of doing the RealD-Dolby experience in theaters, and those ...
