3 in 4 New Phones on AT&T Are iPhones
Fast Company - Technology —
AT&T's just revealed its quarterly finances and among the statistics lies one incredible fact, that demonstrates exactly how much the company's future hinges on Apple: 74% of new "integrated device" activations were iPhones. AT&T saw two million more subscribers join the network, which is the third highest in a quarter in the company's history--a slightly surprising figure, given that we're all supposedly still suffering under a depressed economy. (Could it be the abundant iPhone Apps for the unemployed?) 4.3 million "integrated wireless devices" (basically smartphones) were added to AT&T's grid over this time, ...

AT&T sees record iPhone activations in last quarter
Macworld —
Posted on by Dan Moren , Macworld.com Apple’s U.S. carrier partner, AT&T, may not have had the blockbuster quarter that Apple had, but it’s certainly no slouch , according to its third quarter results. The wireless provider netted income of $3.2 billion on revenue of $30.9 billion in its most recent quarter. That’s flat for the company, which also made $3.2 billion in the same quarter last year, as well as in its second quarter this year. The highlight of the results, for us Apple watchers, is that the provider activated 3.2 million iPhones in its third quarter, a record number that beats the 2.4 million iPhone 3G units activated ...

Filed under: ATTAT&T has come clean with its third quarter earnings today, and on paper, it seems like big ol' Number Two doesn't have much to complain about as far as cash flow goes. Apple aren’t the only ones with a record third quarter– AT&T activated 3.2 million iPhones over this period, their largest total to date. Overall, they activated 4.3 million 3G devices, which means the iPhone accounted for almost 75% of their new smartphone customers. Given that Apple reported selling 7.4 million iPhones this quarter, we can assume that the other 4.2 million iPhones went to overseas, or to those avoiding the AT&T monopoly within the United States.
AT&T also reported an increase in wireless data revenue by $3.6 billion, double what it was two years ago. This is on the back of the ...
