Palm webOS Update Will Address Speed of UI
Palm webOS Update Will Address Speed of UI
One of the frustrating parts of using Palm’s webOS is the lack of speed when accessing menus and in general the UI at times feels sluggish. With hardware on par with Apple’s iPhone 3GS, the speed of the UI just doesn’t feel as fast as it should given the hardware. Longtime ...

Palm: webOS speed fix in the 'immediate future'
Engadget — ... an interesting admission Tuesday related to the Pre's UI latency compared to the iPhone 3GS -- a phone based on the same ARM architecutre. According to the duo, "the path to the GPU didn't exist" in webOS, something that will be solved in the "immediate future" using CSS transforms to modify visual elements thus freeing-up CPU cycles for other tasks. Hmm, immediate future sure sounds like a webOS update to accompany the Palm Pixi release on November 15th. [Via Everything Pre] Filed under: Cellphones, Software Palm: webOS speed ...

Palm to give webOS a speed boost in the “immediate future”
Gadgetell — ... That said, we are still going to have to sit tight and wait for some more details because we are unsure which update this will be coming with. We already know that the Palm Pixi is getting ready to launch soon, and we are expecting version 1.3 soon. But we are not sure if these speed UI enhancements will be coming with 1.3 or in a later update. Bottom line, immediate sounds good, but it will be nicer when we have some firm details as to when. The Party Line — Phone Buzz of the Day
jkOnTheRun — ... webOS about to get faster? (EverythingPre) — Expectations are rising that the next webOS update will bring a bit more speed to the Pre, and presumably the Pixi, which is due out soon. I’d agree with some assessments — with similar hardware to the iPhone, the Pre seems slower by comparison in some respects. I wouldn’t call my Pre slow, but there are functions that are far quicker on my iPhone 3GS. I suspect we’ll see an update in the next few weeks, so we’ll see if performance is improved. ...

Palm Press — webOS to Lose the Lag; Pre gets Simple
jkOnTheRun — ... It is Thursday and that means it’s time for another Palm Press. Palm Press is our weekly look at the world of Palm. The hardware used in the Pre is as advanced as that of almost any phone on the market, but at times the interface can feel a bit laggy. This is no doubt impacted by how nice and graphical the webOS interface is designed. If it looks pretty, it usually takes a bigger hit on the system. That may soon be a thing of the past according to Palm. Palm stated recently that an update for webOS coming “in the immediate future” would address UI latency ...
