Analysis: How will the Windows 7 browser stand-off end?
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
Hang on a minute, isn't this level playing field in the browser wars actually a barren plain bereft of internet surfing software at all? Despite what some people think, there isn't much black and white over the bundling of browsers. Microsoft's rumoured decision to release Windows 7 in Europe without a browser installed brings as many questions, and frankly as much misery, as its currently falsely inflated position at the head of the market. In the last few weeks we have heard Mozilla's Tritan Nitot's calm assertion that there needs to be a level playing field and Opera's Jon von Tetzchner insists that Microsoft's dominance of the browser market is down ...
Mozilla nonplussed by Win 7 browser news
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
Firefox maker Mozilla has responded to the news that Windows 7 will ship without a browser in Europe – insisting that Microsoft should come clean over what incentives it will offer to OEMs to bundle Internet Explorer anyway. Microsoft's response to the EC investigation into its bundling of IE with Windows has led to it stating it will release the European version of its latest operating system without any browsers pre-installed. In a memo to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners, Microsoft suggests that is they that must choose what software to bundle; but Firefox says that this merely deflects the blame, and could merely 'change the technical installation process of ...

Von Tetzchner, talking to TechRadar today from Brussels where he has been speaking about the ongoing EC case, is adamant that Microsoft are well aware that shipping Windows 7 without a browser alongside a 'full' version is a 'solution that doesn't solve anything.' "They are trying to play a game," said von Tetzchner, "and I don't think anyone appreciates that fact they are trying to get away with a solution that doesn't solve anything. "Microsoft is proposing a solution that is not ...
'Koogle' search launches for Orthodox Jews
Techradar - All the latest technology news —
A 'kosher' search engine has been created for devout Jews, with Koogle aiming to ensure that surfing the web will not lead to inappropriate content. Koogle – which is apparently not just a play on search giants Google but also a Jewish noodle pudding – will filter out explicit sites and 'religiously objectionable material' including 'immodest' photos of women. The Israeli site, at www.koogle.co.il, will cater for a select group of people, allowing them to access the web without accidentally stumbling across things that would be considered inappropriate. Kosher alternative "This is a kosher alternative for ultra-Orthodox Jews so that they ...
