Google Blog Search Gets More Like Other Google Search Tools
Mashable! —
Google Blog Search has just added a few features that users of other Google services are likely familiar with.
First, you can now subscribe to any topic via RSS or Atom, like you already can do in Google News. This means every time there’s a new story in the “Technology” category, or more specifically a search term like“social media” you can get that update pushed to your RSS reader. There’s also a new iGoogle gadget if you’d rather access the topic or search term via iGoogle.
The Google Blog Search homepage now also features a “Hot ...

... for the site.
That said, it has been missing some key features. For one, there hasn’t been a good way to track breaking news stories as they happen — generally stories only pop up as they gain momentum and are written about by multiple sites, which can take quite a while (relatively speaking). There also hasn’t been a way to subscribe to a feed of the latest stories via RSS, which nearly every other similar site offers.
Today, Blog Search is finally adding these features. Each feed now offers its own RSS/Atom feeds, as well as an iGoogle ...
Google Updates Blogsearch - Where's the Innovation?
ReadWriteWeb —
Google just announced a number of changes to its blog search engine, Google Blog Search, but none of them will knock your socks off. RSS feeds for search queries were added, something that no self-respecting search engine of dynamic content would be without. Hot search queries and recent posts from popular blogs round out the slight redesign of the Blog Search home page.
While many different Google projects push the envelope with features and interface innovation - users are excited just to see Blog Search make catch-up moves, since it's a sign that the ...

... Nothing innovative here really. Just some functional features which should have been added a long time to Google’s Blog Search. Then again, better late than never. So, Google has just added RSS/ATOM subscription, list of the most popular terms that users are using, and latest blog posts from, I guess “more prominent” blogs indexed by Google Blog Search? The RSS/ATOM subscription is nothing new really. It’s just a way for users to subscribe to any topic or story using any feed reader. For those who don’t use feed readers, Google Blog ...

... about NASA. Just put “NASA” in the Google Blog Search and you’ll see the option to subscribe to the results in the bottom of the left hand column.
If you’re an iGoogle fan, you can get an iGoogle gadget of your search. Why Google didn’t have these features before is kind of a mystery. This reminds me of when Google Reader didn’t have a search feature. Added functionality is always good when you can get it.

Google Blog Search, Now With Added Mediocrity
Andy Beal's Marketing Pilgrim —
Google has updated the homepage to Google Blog Search, but it seems more like a knee jerk reaction to other web sites, than true innovation.
Take for example the new “Hot queries” section. It highlights the search terms currently most active on Google Blog Search. It sounds like a good idea, but ends up looking like nothing but a rip-off of Twitter’s “Trending Topics.” Google couldn’t even be bothered to match those hot queries to the topic you’re viewing. Switch to technology news, and you still see “tour de ...

... Google adds RSS to Blog Search redesign — The Google Blog Search homepage, shown below, now looks like a news site. Twitter Time For Google Blog Search? Not Quite
Google Watch —

First, the new Google Blog Search has gotten a touch of the Twitter treatment with the Hot Queries and Latest Posts features. Google says these tools are intended to let users "better help you discover what people are talking about right now on the Web."
