PS3 Trophy Support Mandatory in '09

While a number of PS3 games do support the Trophy system, which awards gamers with a virtual "trophy" for completing certain game objectives, Sony currently does not require companies to support the feature. Word of the upcoming mandatory support first came out of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, via VideoGamer.com .

Since then there have been many games released that support the feature though there are still, sadly, a few that do not (Fallout 3, we're looking at you). [image] That's right. MANDATORY. Refuse to put trophies in your game and you, developers, will be SHOT. Your families, BILLED for the expense. Or...at least, Sony will be very cranky with you. Because, come January, all new PS3 games must have trophy support. No ifs or buts. So no more patching, no more developer ambivalence, no more inconsistencies . ... news earlier this week exclusively from an undisclosed source from the gaming industry. Following on from this, an official statement from Sony confirmed that this is true as they said ‘Yes, from Jan 09, all games must have trophies.’
This is good news for PS3 owners out there, as Sony try to match the success of Microsoft’s achievements, no longer will we see gamers have to wait months for trophy patches for games that had been released ages ago, well done Sony.
