... in the keyboard instead of a touchpad which would take up too much space on this tiny machine.
It remains to be seen whether the Sony Vaio P will offer enough of a performance or convenience boost over current netbooks to be worth the high price - or even if that is the final price. But we’ll probably find out more next week at CES.

More VAIO P specs leak out
Engadget —
... Atom Z250, 2GB of RAM, standard HDD with optional SSD, GPS, and a 3G WWAN card, all for about €700 ($974). No word on that crazy rumored 1600 x 768 display resolution, but apparently that sexy Photoshopped VAIO TT pic we saw is close to the real thing, trackstick and all. We'll see -- for close to $1000, this guy had better run Vista a hell of a lot better than the similarly-spec'd ASUS R50A UMPC Portal just trashed in a review. More Sony P details leak including pricing?
SlashGear —
... Leaks always happen just days before products are announced and this scenario is no different. With just 5 days before the new Sony P is announced we are hearing that it will contain an Atom Z520 CPU (1,33 GHz) and 2GB of RAM. Apparently you have a choice between a normal HDD and a SSD. You will also get GPS and UMTS included with the Vaio. ...
New info and images of the Sony Vaio P surface
Boy Genius Report —
... The Vaio P will sport an Atom Z250 processor most likely running at 1.33 ghz, 2GB of RAM, a stock HDD with an SSD ugrade option, GPS, UMTS connectivity, and more. All of this goodness should hit the streets for around $970, which is significantly higher than the average netbook, but certainly in keeping with Sony’s premium Vaio line of products. No word on a specific launch, but expect to see this thing go official sometime during next week’s CES festivities.

GigaOM Network —
... is poised ready for announcement at CES next week. UMPC Portal has some sketchy information about the Vaio P that tends to create as many questions as it answers. According to those guys, the Vaio P has an Intel 1.33 GHz processor which makes one think it is the slow Atom processor. Not an auspicious beginning if true. They also report the P will come with 2 GB of RAM, a HDD (no capacity mentioned) or an optional SSD, GPS and UMTS. The information also implies the P will start at less than $1,000 which pushes the netbook limit quite a bit. ...
VAIO P specs continue to seep out of the Interwebs
CrunchGear —
... It seems that the tiny, WinXP machine is going to cost ya around a grand - €700 or $974 to be exact. A 3G WWAN card and GPS might sweeten the deal a bit more but for just under $1,000, you will be purchasing an 8-inch, Atom-powered notebook. Seems to be priced a tad over market. Then again, Apple’s netbook, the Air, starts at $1799 and it seems to be selling alright. Eh, Biggs? ...
