... thousands of geeks worldwide to trek to Japan's Akihabara every year. This tiny cube flips open to reveal a sinister-looking set of control buttons with a decidedly retro-looking speaker hovering just above.
Other than summoning your Volcano lair army of robo-soldiers, it's hard to understand why ELPA thought this was a good idea--but it looks cool! You can pick up your master of the universe cube controller for just 4,000 yen ($41) here.

Asahi Electric Corp introduces a Tv remote with a speaker
Gizmodiva.com —
In a world where TV is the most dominant form of entertainment, we know the value of a remote control and there is a sea of them out there. Asahi Electric Corp has launched a TV remote that's slightly different from the average ones. This one has a speaker. The speaker has a 30mm-radius and there's a receiver unit for wireless connection. Seems like a completely pointless and useless device to me.

ELPA Universal Remote Includes A Wireless Speaker

The RC-25SP Universal Speaker Remote is available from ELPA for about $40.

Japanese company sells remote control brick with built-in mini speaker
CrunchGear —
... it’s useful for the living room when you watch TV with your family, in the bed room so neighbors aren’t disturbed during night time or if you need to listen to what comes out of the TV with the main speakers muted (for example, when a baby sleeps near the TV and you do kitchen work far away from the tube).
This may not be as stupid as it sounds but the device is pretty heavy at 240g and looks totally unergonomic. The brick costs $40 and is Japan-only.
