The Week in iPhone Apps: Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes! [IPhone Apps]
Gizmodo —
... Guitar Rock Tour: While it appears to be guilty of any number of IP infringements, Guitar Rock Tour brings a Guitar Hero/Rock Band-like experience to the iPhone, with playable guitar and drums set to what are surely cut-rate covers of Rock You Like a Hurricane and others of that ilk. At $10 this better be awesome, but if you need to take your simulated rocking with you everywhere, here you go. ...
Article: iPhone Gems: Game Show, Music, Fishing + Pool Games
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond —
This week’s gaming edition of iPhone Gems looks at six very different but surprisingly compelling new games, each making better use of the iPhone and iPod touch hardware than any comparable earlier title, albeit at prices that may or may not appeal to some users. They come from a few different genres, so we’re breaking them up into four categories: game show games, rhythm music games, fishing, and pool. [image] No title is especially noteworthy this week—they’re actually all worth reading about, assuming that you’re interested in the genres they represent. But the best value of the bunch is Freeverse’s Flick Sports Fishing , a highly impressive fishing game given its ...
Guitar Rock Tour vs. Tap Tap Revenge [TheAppleBlog]
GigaOM Network —
Guitar Rock Tour has arrived to challenge Tap Tap Revenge’s rhythm-action throne. The new arrival touts a bevy of terrific tunes to tap along to, plus the option to play drums or guitar, loads of characters and unlockable awards.
While Guitar Rock Tour may be Rock Band squished on to the iPhone, it’s just as loud and rocks just as hard. Whereas Tap Tap Revenge is free, Guitar Rock Tour costs a few bucks ($9.99) and as such is polished better than a factory fresh Fender Strat.
At the core of any decent music-based game is the soundtrack and, while all of the song in GRT are sound-a-likes of the real thing, ...

What Apple can teach Nintendo and Sony
Macworld —
by Darren Gladstone , PC World Editor’s Note: The following is reprinted from the Casual Friday blog at PCWorld.com . Nintendo, Sony: Let’s talk for a sec—just you and me. Look, guys, over the past couple of years, you’ve had a great run. Nintendo, your DS has tons of games, a wide variety of unique stuff that’s a blast to play. Sony, your PSP is a gadget-lover’s gaming tool, with everything from Skype to Internet-radio support (oh, yeah, and you have some cool games, as well). But unless you both do something in 2009, the iPhone and iPod Touch will soon become the top dogs in handheld gaming. Apple, the same folks who have pretty much ...
TUAW at E3: Guitar Rock Tour 2 and DJ Mix Tour
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Gaming, Odds and ends, iPhone, App Store, iPod touchWhile we really liked Gameloft's Castle of Magic at E3, these two music games in their lineup didn't impress nearly as much. Guitar Rock Tour 2 is a sequel to Guitar Rock Tour, and as you can tell from the picture at right, it's more or less a Guitar Hero knock-off: hit the notes as they pass the line at the bottom, and you'll hear whatever song you choose to play. At this point, gameplay on all of these games is more or less the same, so song selection makes the difference, and that's where ...
