MySpace CEO: Maybe We'll Build An iPod Killer
Silicon Alley Insider —
Web 2.0 conference organizer John Battelle asked MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe if MySpace Music planned to would build a digital music player to rival the iPod.
"It's possible,"said DeWolfe. "Right now, we're just focusing on the service."
Probably the safer plan. Also pressing: getting former MTV exec Courtney Holt to stop whispering to his friends about getting the MySpace Music CEO gig and start, you know, working the gig.
Hghlights from the Reuters report on DeWolfe's appearance:

MySpace co-founder considering portable music device
Tech Digest —
... and launching a "device for listening to music" in the future, but that they're currently just focusing on MySpace Music. Earlier this year, MySpace launched a download store in conjunction with major labels. Building its own MP3 player which ties in to that service, and potentially allows users to stream tracks over wireless, would be an obvious next step for the social networking company. Especially if it starts offering Slacker-like features. MySpace (via Reuters) Related posts: MySpace Music | Oasis teasing new album 'Dig Out ...
Myspace Drinks The DAP Kool-Aid
GEARFUSE —
[image] Who does Chris DeWolfe, CEO of MySpace.com, think he is? Michael Arrington of TechCrunch ? Because he certainly doesn’t think he’s the CEO of MySpace. If he did, he wouldn’t have come up with the crazy notion that MySpace could compete in what is essentially Apple’s market of portable media players . Seriously, a MySpace-branded portable media player? Are you nuts? According to Reuters, DeWolfe is only thinking about it. Let’s hope this idea remains a thought never to be realized, lest it joins the ranks of the Zune all the way at the bottom. If Microsoft can’t compete, what makes MySpace think it can? Clearly, it’s the Kool-Aid. Link [ via ] ...

A MySpace portable audio player?
Engadget —

MySpace has long been associated with music, and the site's recent push into commercial sales has prompted rumors that it might release a device of its own -- "it's possible," said the site's co-founder Chris DeWolfe when asked about it yesterday. For the time being, however, the social networking site will be wisely concentrating on ...
About That MySpace Music Device
TechCrunch —
Last Thursday John Battelle sat down with MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe and Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman to discuss the future of music.
Some interesting things were said, including remarks by Bronfman that Warner will only sign new artists if they agree to give the label a cut of all possible revenue streams. But the biggest story about the talk, by far, was this: MySpace may be creating a music device.
At least that’s what dozens of blogs and mainstream news outlets reporte. A sample:
Reuters: Is MySpace dreaming of a music device?
Reuters: MySpace could develop digital music player (Reuters liked the story ...

Pulse2 - Technology News And Reviews —
MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe hinted that the company may launch its own portable MP3 player. An MP3 player will be a good fit for the recently launched MySpace Music. The music platform / MP3 player combination would rival Apple’s iPod / iTunes.
The MySpace music site had a successful launch. Over 1 billion streams of music were processed in the first few days of launch and over 80 million music playlists have been created on the site since launch.
