Nine Cell Netbook Batteries Showing Up in the Wild
Wired: Gadget Lab —
Netbook battery life sucks. An MSI Wind with the standard three-cell battery (and a non-standard OS X install) will give you a pathetic 2 hours of freedom from the wall-wart, and that's if you take things easy. The six cell, which lucky Gadget Labber Brian "Mister X" Chen received, shipped as standard with his MSI Wind, will give four hours plus of untethered computing.
But now, nine cell batteries are starting to show up after the initial rumors leaked out at the beginning of October. So far they're coming from a seller on the UK branch of Ebay, and they ain't cheap. Over at the MSI Wind Forums, poster norfolk.enchance (read it out ...
My Humps: Check out this nine cell netbook battery!
CrunchGear —
Holy crap, you could drive a truck under that thing. That’s a nine cell battery for the MSI Wind netbook, which is available on Ebay’s UK site according to a post in the MsiWind.net forums. The item ships from China for a grand total of around £70 – roughly $115 in US dollars.
Owners of this gigantic lump are reporting over 6.5 hours of battery life. When I tested the six-cell MSI Wind, I was able to get a little over five hours before having to recharge so I’d almost think you could squeeze 8+ hours out of a nine-cell battery with everything tweaked to maximize power consumption.

Big-Ass MSI Wind 9 cell batteries now shipping
Liliputing —
I’m a sucker for a photo of a big battery. I’ve been known to purchase batteries for PDAs and handheld devices that triple their battery life and double their weight. Sure, you feel a bit silly buying a 19 ounce battery for a netbook that weighs less than 2 pounds without one. But there’s something appealing about being able to squeeze 8-10 horus of battery life on a single charge.
Some members of the MSI Wind forums have found an eBay seller with 9 cell batteries for the MSI Wind laptop. There’s no doubt, the battery adds a bit of heft (and tilt) to the netbook. ...
MSI Wind 9-cell battery giving 10+ hours use
SlashGear —
Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, hence the jacked-up MSI Wind you see below. The culprit is a whopping 9-cell battery pack for the netbook, available from third-party sellers on eBay rather than an official MSI accessory, which takes its merely moderate runtime from the standard batteries and boosts it to 7.5 to 10hrs.
The standard 3-cell Wind battery is good for around two hours, while the 6-cell prolongs that to around four. Buyers of this new unofficial pack are reporting Windows XP estimates of up to 10+hrs; it’s uncertain how long exactly the batteries will last (it takes the first few ...
MSI Wind 9-cell spotted in the wild

Remember those delectable photos of the supposedly official 9-cell MSI Wind batteries we saw a few weeks ago? The ones we were told to expect in November? Well, only two days in and November's apparently brought some of us something besides that rain we're always ...
MSI Wind gets gargantuan 9-cell battery
Boing Boing Gadgets —
... Wind is an official 9-cell, which practically functions as its own laptop stand. They've already started showing up on eBay, and are supposed to be released in a more official capacity sometime this month. The juice levels do seem to fall in the sweet spot: users are reporting about 7.5-hours of battery life. But I can't help but think that carrying around a battery practically as big as your computer itself is some sort of violation of the spirit of the netbook movement.
