News Bits Goes to the Movies

Where do kids go for their online movie information these days? Surprisingly enough, it's not Moviefone , which is owned by AOL LLC , or even Fandango , which is owned by Comcast Interactive Media (CIM Labs) . Give up? According to a Nielsen NRG poll, the No. 1 online destination for moviegoers aged 15 to 24 is actually MySpace . According to the poll, 46 percent of young movie watchers stopped by MySpace, versus 26 percent for Yahoo, 18 percent for Fandango , and 12 percent for AOL's Moviefone . But the social networking site's hold on ...
Facebook App Helps You Get Reimbursed For Sucky Movies
GeekSugar —
If you saw a real stinker of a movie recently and are still fuming over the dough you lost paying for your tix — I feel you, movie tickets here in SF are upwards of $10.50 now — a new Facebook app can't get your precious time back, but can at least help you get back your money in the form of free movie tickets.
Called Payback Time, this app relies heavily on your creative and convincing writing style. Just leave your rant on Payback Time as to why you should get your money back, list the dollar amount you want reimbursed (I'd throw in the cost of popcorn and ...

It looks as if gorgeous photographs with links to answers of tangential questions aren't enough to win over (or even keep) MSN Live Search 's users. The site's share of search went down in Nielsen's October search rankings. Wa aaa y down. The No. 3 search site now has 11.4 percent of total searches , down a whopping 19 percent from last year, according to Nielsen's press release. Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is still No. 1 with 61.2 percent of total search, up 8.1 percent, and Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) stays at No. 2 with 16.9 of the market, which declined overall by 12 percent. ...
Palm Pre Losing Mojo Each Day the SDK is Held Close
jkOnTheRun —
Just yesterday, I was on camera saying how much I’m looking forward to the Palm Pre. With my first-gen iPhone contract up in July, I’m sure to get a new phone this summer. There’s still some open questions around the Pre, such as battery life and the cost to use the phone as a tethered modem for a notebook or netbook. The biggest question I have right now is the same one I had for Google’s Android device: How long before developers embrace it and deliver a vast array of software?
This morning, I read a Wired article about ...

AT&T iPhone Ad for The New Yorker: Apps in the City
BIA/Kelsey Blog —
In an take off of “Sex in the city,” AT&T has taken out the back page of The New Yorker with an iPhone ad entitled “Apps in the city.” The ad, part of a series of iPhone ads using different themes and highlighting apps under that theme, features Urban Daddy, OpenTable, Wine Ph.D, Fandango and Rocket Taxi.
It is nice for AT&T and Apple to support the local apps with the ads. But otherwise, keeping tabs on local apps can be tough work. As my mobile-centric colleague Mike Boland notes, “there is no ‘local’ ...

Hello, And Welcome To Moviefone. Now Leave And Try ShowtimeFu.
TechCrunch —
At one time, Moviefone was the hottest way to find movie showtimes. It was so hot in the 90s that Seinfeld even made fun of it in an episode (embed below). Sadly, now run by AOL, its website is a cluttered mess. I don’t know about you, but when I visit it, I expect to find a way to easily find movie showtimes. I don’t care about the latest celebrity gossip, nor do I want to see all this behind the scenes stuff. Just movie showtimes, please.
That’s what a new site, ShowtimeFu offers. And it’s so much better than Moviefone You simply visit the site, put ...
