Nintendo DS: The Next Popular Book Reader?
Wired: Gadget Lab — ... simply releasing cartridges like this one, the game company would be competing with Amazon's Kindle and other manufacturers selling readers. I'd imagine many would enjoy using the DS as a book reader, because the dual-screen interface is quite pleasant to use. Having two screens more closely emulates the experience of reading a book anyway, right? And it's likely this will be successful, as book-reading software on the iPhone is already extremely popular.  Mario makes way for Shakespeare on Nintendo DS in HarperCollins deal [Times Online] ...

More Books On The DS Following Harper Collins/Nintendo Deal [Books]
Kotaku — ... , so one has to assume that the publisher will be providing some of its own catalogue of titles for future download or cartridge release. Currently an additional 10 titles (all free) are up for download via Nintendo WiFi. Although the DS screen is a good deal smaller than that of the Amazon Kindle or Sony Ereader, it is also a good deal cheaper and has the added benefit of AWESOME GAMES. Nintendo DS Now Also a Book Reader
Gearlog — ... While still mainly a handheld gaming device, the Nintendo DS could now officially be used as an e-book reader similar to the likes of the Kindle and the Sony Reader. According to Times Online, the Japan-based company struck a deal with publisher HarperCollins to make literary classics available in their digital format on the DS console. Making use of the handheld's touch screen spec, pages are turned by swiping a finger across the page. I do think this is a fantastic idea - Nintendo gets to cater to another set of audience other than just gamers and gamers ...

Nintendo Gets Into Media Convergence With…Books?
Technologizer — mariobooks When it comes creating machines that do more than play games, Nintendo never shared the eagerness of its competitors. Thinking back, I can’t recall any of their consoles or handheld devices offering other entertainment media besides games. That’s why the deal between Nintendo and book publisher HarperCollins, to release the 100 Classic Book Collection for the Nintendo DS handheld, is such a surprise. Really, though, it’s pretty clever. You pop in the cartridge, flip the DS on its side so the dual screens are aligned horizontally, like a book, and use your finger and ...
