MacGyver's iPod Speakers
Tech Blog —
... Called the "iPod Ghetto Accessory", this concept is comprised of an "iPod with classic earbuds, two toothpicks, and four cups." No word yet on availablity, but you can probably make it yourself with supermarket-sourced supplies. Click here for one more picture.
Can we trust a person who totally just MacGyvers up a speaker system out of cups and toothpics? Yes. Yes we can.

The Cheapest DIY Speakers You’ll Ever Craft
GEARFUSE —
... card declined at the Apple Store. Look who’s laughing now. They’re just like the clubhouse telephones of days past, where simply attaching a string to two ends of a can fashions together a communication device unlike any other. These speakers are just as simple to make, too. Get four paper cups. Punch holes in the back of two of them. Place them on top of the other two, linking them together with two tooth picks. Then, stick your earbuds through the holes. It’s ghetto magic! Link [ via ]
iPod Cup Speakers - Too Ghetto

... are no more than 4 cups, 2 toothpicks to hold them together and a set of iPod headphones connected to an iPod. The headphones are popped into the back of the cups to produce the speaker effect (or lack of).
Simplicity in itself. The sound quality will no doubt by absolutely wack with it being made out of plastic cups and all but the style of the iPod paper cup speakers is definitely ghetto fabulous.

4 Cups + 2 Tooth Picks = iPod Speaker system?
Apple Gazette —
... from designer Dmitry Zagga. It pokes fun at conceptual design - and if you’ve been around here for any length of time you know that if it’s on thing I enjoy — it’s poking fun.
The project is pretty easy, it involves 4 paper cups, two tooth picks, and an iPod with classic earbuds.
The idea certainly isn’t going to bring the house down volume wise, but it could be an entertaining diversion if you truly have nothing else to do.

iPod Speakers: Four Paper Cups, Two Toothpicks
Cult of Mac —
...
Designer Dmitry Zagga kept his iPod speakers simple: all you need for his CupSpeakers, dubbed the “iPod Ghetto Accesory” are four white paper cups (preferably from the company cafeteria) and a couple of toothpicks to hold them together.
By his own admission, “the increase in volume, of course, is radiculous, (sic?) but hey, you get stylish iPod accessory out of nothing!”

Plastic Cup and Toothpick Speakers Take Lo-Fi to New Heights [Applesque Accessories]
Gizmodo —
... The toothpicks hold the cups together, and a small hole at the base of the top cup holds an earbud. The sound is magnified due to the shape of the cup, not any fancy-schmancy "electronics." It may not compete with, you know, real speakers, but Dmitry's got a good sense of humor about him and it looks like a fun project for the incredibly bored. [Yanko] ...

IPod Speakers Made From Paper Cups and Sticks
Wired: Gadget Lab —
... speaker design consists four paper cups, a couple of toothpicks and an iPod.
It is, as he puts it, an iPod Ghetto Accessory. There's something very right about these cheap horn speakers -- the clean white lines perfectly match the 2003 2G iPod. But we very much doubt the sound would be louder than that from the earbuds alone. On the other hand, they're likely to be a lot better than some passive speaker systems you can buy.

Got Four Disposable Drinking Cups and Two Toothpicks? You Have an iPod Speaker System!
iSmashPhone - Turn your Phone into your MyPhone —
... as low-tech as you can get, but it works great. Just punch a little hole in the bottom of each of two disposable drinking cups, insert your iPod's ear buds, then attach the "speakers" to two more upside down drinking cups with the toothpicks. Voila! Speakers. (OK, OK, it may not compete with real speakers, but when you're desperate…) You may not be able to get a good 5 cent cigar anymore, but who says you can't have a serviceable 5 cent speaker system?
