Microsoft pulls out of Family Guy special
The Raw Feed —
... Could Microsoft's marketing department be any more inept? First, the company pays the Family Guy people a load of money to sell out and write gratuitous Windows 7 references into the "Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show," airing November 8, which is so bad harms the reputations of both Microsoft and Family Guy. Now, according to Hollywood trade rag Variety, Microsoft is pulling out of the special because they discovered that Family Guy does controversial material. Microsoft was shocked -- SHOCKED! -- to discover that the episode would contain "typical ...
Microsoft Pusses Out on Family Guy Special [Windows 7]
Gizmodo —
Microsoft's involvement in the Windows 7 Family Guy hackathon is canceled. Family Guy's writing team pulled out one too many idea balls about incest, the Holocaust and feminine hygiene, making it "not a fit with the Windows brand." Aw, that description of stuff in the episode makes me almost not really sad about missing a joke about Windows 7 making it easier to insert tampons for deaf people during the Holocaust. Shucks. Microsoft pulls out of Family Guy
The Inquisitr » Technology —
Last week Seth MacFarlane the creative genius behind the hit show Family Guy and Microsoft announced a rather interesting partnership. In effect Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show would be sponsored by Microsoft in exchanged for Windows 7 product placement in the show.
Of course this created a roar of sell-out and flack galore for both Seth and Microsoft but it wasn’t that bad PR that caused Microsoft to pull out of the deal. Instead it turns out that Microsoft didn’t want to be associated with jokes about deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest.
That ...

Microsoft has dropped its sponsorship off Fox's upcoming Seth MacFarlane comedy/variety special. Fox still plans to air "Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show" on Nov. 8, but with another, yet-to-be-named sponsor. "We initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of 'Family Guy,' but after reviewing an early version of the variety show it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "We continue to have a good partnership with Fox, Seth MacFarlane and ...

Microsoft pulls out of 'Family Guy' special
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence —
Microsoft has yanked its sponsorship of Fox's upcoming Seth MacFarlane comedy/variety special. Our only question is: Has Microsoft ever watched Family Guy? What did they expect?
But that was before Microsoft execs attended the special's taping on Oct. 16. The special included MacFarlane and Alex Borstein - the voice of "Family Guy" matriarch Lois - pitching Windows 7. For most of the special, however, MacFarlane and Borstein made typical "Family Guy" style jokes, including riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and ...
Windows 7 and Family Guy: The Arranged Marriage is Over

Remember that upcoming FOX special starring Seth McFarlane, the creator of Family Guy–the one sponsored entirely by Windows 7, with the operating system worked into the show itself? Musing about it a couple of weeks ago, I said “there seems to be a basic cognitive dissonance at work when a supposedly take-no-prisoners, ...

Family Guy Is Not Promoting Windows 7
I4U News —
... appeared that Microsoft signed on to sponsor a Family Guy episode on Fox in November to promote Windows 7. Variety reports now that Microsoft cancelled the Windows 7 sponsorship because of the show's content. The Family Guy episode in question is actually special one dubbed Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show. The show has been already tapped and the jokes MacFarlane and Borstein are apparently to dirty to fit to Microsoft's "clean" image. Fox is apparently now looking for a new sponsor for the special Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's ...

Microsoft's Family Guy cancellation: Windows 7, yes; incest and deaf people, no
Preston Gralla's blog —
Here's no surprise: Microsoft has cancelled its Windows 7 sponsorship of a Family Guy special on November 8, saying "the content was not a fit with the Windows brand." I guess they expected jokes about User Account Control rather than feminine hygiene, and about Aero Peek rather than incest. As I've blogged previously, Microsoft had planned to sponsor the special ...
Microsoft Pulls Out of Family Guy Deal
Maximum PC all RSS Feed —
What the deuce? Microsoft, who earlier this month seemed stoked to sponsor Fox's upcoming "Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show" has now decided to pull out of the deal. Under the original agreement, the variety show was to integrate Windows 7 into its routine, including shorts featuring the cartoon cast of Family Guy. But after viewing a taping of the comedy show, Microsoft got cold feet and walked away citing content concerns.
"We initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of 'Family Guy,' but after ...

The special, called Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show , was going to run commercial free, with Windows 7 marketing built into the show . But Microsoft execs who attended the special's taping on Oct. 16 became concerned about the content, which included jokes about "deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest." Microsoft Dumps Family Guy
Microsoft Watch —
Microsoft to Seth MacFarlane: The relationship is over. Roughly two weeks after Microsoft announced that the "Family Guy" creator would be the next funnyman employed by Redmond to sell Windows 7 (following up Jerry Seinfeld, who starred in a series of thoroughly inscrutable ads in support of Windows Vista), the deal has mostly fallen apart. According to Variety, Microsoft yanked its sponsorship of "Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show," due to air on Nov. 8, after realizing that MacFarlane intended to be ...

AppleInsider —
... Published: 06:00 PM EST Microsoft has pulled the plug on its Windows 7 ad campaign featuring Seth MacFarlane's "Family Guy" franchise after deciding the edgy comedy didn't "fit with the Windows brand." A report by Variety said Microsoft originally hoped to sponsor the "Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show" on Fox to help launch Windows 7. Rather than using commercial breaks between the show's segments of animated and live-action comedy routines, the company planned to work with MacFarlane and comedienne Alex Borstein to inject messages about Windows ...
Microsoft Shocked — Shocked! — By Offensive ‘Family Guy’ Content
Wired: Epicenter —
In its long-running ad campaign featuring Justin Long as a Mac and John Hodman as a PC, Apple has done a good job portraying Microsoft’s Windows as the preferred operating system of stuffy, slightly clueless nerds. To judge from the ads, Mac is a skinny, slouchy hipster in an untucked shirt and Windows is a boxy, bulky salaryman in a cheap tie. Mac hooks up with cute, shiny Japanese cameras and creates movies as flawless as Gisele Bündchen; PC awkwardly enjoys “slow jams” and earnestly sings the blues.
You get the idea.

Microsoft: Family Guy, no; South Park, sex, and drugs, yes
Preston Gralla's blog —
Microsoft may find the Family Guy too off-color or off-center for sponsorship, but the company seems to have something of a double standard --- it's spent more than $1 million on ads for South Park, and it pays for ads on shows that feature drug dealing, violence, plenty of sex, and bathroom humor. Microsoft initially said that it was going to sponsor a special titled "Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show," on November 8, and was going to embed Windows 7 pitches directly into the show, rather than using traditional ads. Then Microsoft saw the show, which according to Variety ...
