image Taito has released its classic Space Invaders game for the iPhone and iPod touch. The game offers a faithful recreation of the arcade experience, providing a simulated cabinet mode with on-screen joystick, button, and arcade-style display; touch/drag and tilt controls are also available, along with four different screen modes. In addition, it features bonus extras including materials from the original game’s development. Disappointingly, the game does not include any of the features of Taito’s later, better Space Invaders sequels, including the well-regarded Space Invaders Extreme . Space Invaders is available now from the App Store and sells for ...

The company said that the "Nagoya Attack" technique and other tricks present in the original game work in this version. There's also some bundled bonus content, including a behind-the-scenes look at the original game's development cycle.

Space Invaders review
TouchGen —
Space Invaders was released upon the unsuspecting world back in 1978. I was just a toddler at the time, and sadly I had no chance of trying it out in the arcades. Now I get a new chance to try it out for my iPhone as Taito has chosen to release it without any extra modes. This is a strategy completely opposite that of Namco that has released remixed versions of their classics adding new graphics and to a minor extent tweaked game play of titles such as Dig Dug, Ms Pacman and Pole Position.
Space Invaders is the most played arcade game of all times, and according to Wikipedia it had earned Taito $500 million in revenue by 2007. Releasing it in the ...
