Shuffle 2k9 dissected
CrunchGear —
... As is expected to happen with any new Apple product, iFixit has torn the poor bugger to pieces and documented the whole process. With the Shuffle 2k9, it’s nearly as complicated as taking apart a MacBook or anything like that, so it’s a relatively short process. They pry it open like a little chrome oyster, and find a board and battery inside, just like they expected. Where’s the little man who tells you what song is playing? ...

In the case of the third-generation Shuffle teardown , like with all recent iPods, Apple doesn't make it easy to crack the case. And although only one screw had to be removed, iFixit describes how it had to insert a "metal spudger into a crevice between the rear cover and the rest of the Shuffle" to get the device open. As you might expect, things are pretty simple--and tiny--under the Shuffle's hood. There are a couple more pictures after the jump, but the ...

MacDailyNews —
Apple’s 3G iPod shuffle unboxing and dissection Friday, March 13, 2009 - 08:48 AM EDT [image] iFixIt got their hands on a brand-new 3G iPod shuffle and wondered what was inside. A selection of iFixIt's notes: • The box is as dainty as its contents. • A single MacBook Pro 17" weighs as much as 286 of these shuffles. • We gave it a quick listen before tearing it apart. • The shuffle does not say iPod (or shuffle) anywhere. As far as we know, this is the first iPod that Apple didn't label. • Normal headphones can still be used to listen to music. The only drawback: without ...

Interestingly, the back of the shuffle’s main casing was stamped 09/03/03, suggesting it may have been manufactured as little as ten days ago, and both halves of the device weighed 5 grams, or about 10% more than a ...

iFixit publishes customary tear-down of the 3G iPod shuffle
Macworld —
... It seems almost cruel doing this to something so minuscule, but the size of the iPod shuffle didn’t stop the guys at iFixit from doing what they do best—purchasing an Apple product as soon as it hits the market and exposing its innards to the whole wide world . Given that the whole thing weighs just a shade over ten grams and, once you get past the anodized aluminum enclosure, is held together by a single screw, it’s no surprise that the entire process consisted of barely ten steps and required hardly any effort. As you’d expect, the parts inside the iPod are tiny too—a small ...

3rd generation iPod shuffle teardown
Hack a Day —
... You should all know the drill by now. New electronics hit the market and someone has to post pictures of it spread open bit by bit. The new shuffle is no different as iFixit shows us. There are some very nice pictures of the entire process. As you can see, most of the space is taken up by the battery. The thing that is probably most striking here is the main problem that many people have with it; there aren’t any buttons. ...
We found the chip inside the new iPod headphones...but is it DRM?
Boing Boing Gadgets —
... You'd never guess it was there -- a tiny chip, barely a millimeter square, hidden inside the headphone module on the third-gen iPod shuffle. If you dismantle the module itself, you still won't see it: it's underneath a board containing a few simple copper traces, itself minuscule, and glued to the plastic. Even the traditional iFixit teardown gallery missed it. ...
About the New iPod Shuffle
HardMac.com —
iFixit disassembled the new iPod Shuffle.
Apple has pushed the integration to a new stage with the new iPod Shuffle. Most of the space is taken by the battery; the remaining volume is composed of a small PCB on which sits a chip integrating all features required for the iPod Shuffle to work, from the decoding CPU to the flash memory.
If one could consider that this is most likely an expensive solution, it allows Apple to offer a truly small iPod, but also to prevent easy copies of this new model by the usual Asian ...

New Shuffle Costs Apple $21.77 to Build [Apple]
Gizmodo —
... Capacitors and Resistors (Smallest iSupply had ever seen, a grain of salt a pop) Less than a penny each The prices of the headphones, body and case were unspecified, but apparently those components make up the other half of the shuffle's component cost to Apple.
