Netbooks not suited to daily use, claims Intel VP
SlashGear —
... Given the usual refrain that accompanies any new netbook announcement - “under the hood there’s Intel’s N270 1.6GHz Atom processor…” - you’d think the silicon company would be happy with their lot in life. However it looks as though they’re not so sure; Stu Pann, vice president in the sales and marketing group at Intel, has described netbooks as “not something you’re going to use day in and day out.” ...
Intel exec pans netbooks: used for "an hour"
Electronista | The Macintosh News Network —
[image] Intel is no longer as enthusiastic as it has been regarding netbooks, company sales and marketing VP Stu Pann has said at a supply chain conference. The executive reveals that the popularity of netbooks in Western countries has been unexpected at Intel, which had only expected strong use by children and developing countries that were either better suited to the small form factor or else couldn't afford a full-size system. Many of the systems aren't well-suited to extended use by adults, he notes. "If you've ever used a netbook and used a 10-inch screen size, it's ...

Has Intel Altered Its Stance on Netbooks? No
Gearlog —
... I'll cite Crothers' quote, taken from a Raymond James IT conference presentation by Stu Pann, a vice president at the sales and marketing group at Intel: "We originally thought Netbooks would be for emerging markets and younger kids, and there is some of that. It turns out the bulk of the Netbooks sold today are Western Europe, North America, and for people who just want to grab and go with a notebook," Pann said. "We view the Netbook as mostly incremental to our total available market," he added. ...
Whassup with Netbooks?
Open Source —
It has suddenly become fashionable to diss the Netbook.
Some of the blame goes to Intel, which didn’t understand who its buyers might be.
I remember when cars like my Toyota Scion and the Honda Element came out their makers assumed they would sell to first-time car buyers, kids. Instead they got people like me. Many now call the Element the Elderment.
Point is there were buyers. And there are buyers for the Netbook. But it’s also important to note that this year’s models are just Version 1.0 for the form factor. It ...
