Lenovo IdeaPad S12 now available, sans NVIDIA ION
Liliputing —
Lenovo.com
Lenovo has started taking orders for the IdeaPad 12. This laptop has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, but the rest of the specs are nearly identical to the cheaper, smaller IdeaPad S10… for now at least.
Eventually Lenovo is expected to make a version of the S12 available with NVIDIA ION graphics. But right now, the computer is available with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, Integrated GMA ...
Lenovo S12 gets a VIA Nano option
Engadget —
Wanna trade in some battery life and get a bit of extra speed in the deal? Lenovo is now offering its spanking new S12 netbook with a VIA Nano ULV 2250 processor and VIA Chrome9 HC3 graphics instead of the usual Intel Atom / GMA 950 combo, which should offer a little more pep (at least in some applications) and lops $50 off the original's spendy $500 asking price. The Nano setup will draw more battery than the Atom, so you might want to invest that extra cash ...
Lenovo S12 VIA Nano Option Swaps Battery Life For Speed Boost [Lenovo]
Gizmodo —
A quiet addition to the relatively new Lenovo S12 grants users a bit of a speed boost if they're willing to sacrifice some battery life to get it. The option is a VIA Nano ULV 2250 processor with Chrome9 HC3 graphics. This setup replaces the usual Intel Atom and GMA 950 tandem that ships normally for about $500. Incidentally, the new option is $50 cheaper too. [Lenovo via Engadget]

VIA Nano 1.3GHz Lenovo IdeaPad S12 revealed
SlashGear —
As well as their NVIDIA Ion-equipped version, Lenovo have revealed a VIA Nano based IdeaPad S12 netbook. The 12.1-inch WXGA machine uses VIA’s Nano ULV 2250 processor, running at 1.30GHz, together with the company’s integrated Chrome9 HC3 graphics chipset.
Like its Intel-based brethren (which are available in both integrated-graphics and Ion forms), the Nano IdeaPad S12 has 1GB of RAM, a 150GB 5,400rpm hard-drive and WiFi b/g. There’s also a standard 6-cell Li-Ion battery. We’d obviously expect graphics performance to lag behind the 1080p-capable version.
What you do get with the Nano S12 is a cheaper machine. Prices start at $449, compared to at least $50 more for the Intel models, and it’s listed as beginning ...
Lenovo Now Accepting Pre-orders for VIA Nano-powered IdeaPad S12
Maximum PC all RSS Feed —
Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 is the soul of a netbook trapped in the anatomy of a notebook. It has now become clear that Lenovo plans to release three variants of this 12-inch netbook, which it had announced as the world’s first Ion-based netbook last month – the Ion-based SKU will be available later in the summer. Lenovo has begun accepting pre-orders for a Nano-based variant of this netbook. Of course, an Atom-powered SKU is also available.
The VIA Nano powered IdeaPad S12 features a VIA Nano ULV 2250 processor and VIA Chrome9 HC3 graphics. The combination is expected to outperform the Atom-based S12 variant, featuring the Atom N270 processor along with Intel 945GSE chipset. The Nano-powered S12 can be ordered for $449, whereas its Atom-toting counterpart is ...
Video: Lenovo's Atom-based IdeaPad S12 starts shipping with handling
Engadget —
It's 12-inches so technically you won't find Intel calling it a netbook. But don't let semantics come between you and Lenovo's $499 IdeaPad S12. Inside you'll find a very netbook-y 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor with GMA 950 graphics, 1280 x 800 resolution, 1GB of memory and 160GB disk, 802.11b/g WiFi, and 6-cell battery. Only the black model is shipping in the US while the white and VIA Nano editions are still tagged with that standard Lenovo "ships in more than 4 weeks" ...
Lenovo S10-2, S12 Netbooks Arrive [jkOnTheRun]
GigaOM Network —
Today is going to be a busy day as the FedEx guy, Clyde, just brought me a small box. What makes this small box so unusual is that it contained not one netbook, but two! Lenovo was kind enough to send over two review units of their current netbooks, the S10-2 and the S12. Some folks may find the 12-inch S12 stretches the definition of a netbook with its larger size, but it is configured similarly to the smaller S10-2, so I guess it’s OK to call it a netbook.
The rest of my day is going to be filled with the fun of discovering two new devices, so I’ll throw a couple of photos up to give you a taste. I’ll be giving some in-depth thoughts on both the S10-2 and the S12 soon.
The S10-2 is a refreshed model of the original S10 ...
jkOnTheRun video- Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2, S12 Netbooks
jkOnTheRun —
Lenovo was kind enough to send me two of their most current netbook models and this video is a tour of both models. The S10-2 is as small as netbooks go while retaining full usability in my view and the S12 pushes the limits of netbooks with a 12-inch screen.
The video gives an overview of both netbooks and shows the size comparison of the two models. This gives a glimpse into how little additional size and weight you gain with the larger ...
Lenovo IdeaPad S12 review
Liliputing —
The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is larger than a netbook, but smaller than most notebooks. It has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and a full sized keyboard. But the unit I reviewed has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and integrated graphics, which means the performance is on par with you average netbook in most circumstances. And thanks to the high resolution display, some tasks like HD video playback, actually work better on a standard netbook than on ...
Dell Ditches Its Big Netbook
Technologizer —
I swear I’m not a conspiracy theorist. But if I were, I’d be suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the death of Dell’s Mini 12 netbook, which the company is discontinuing. Along with Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12, it was one of the few netbooks on the market with a 12-inch screen, so its absence will be felt.
The company says that “Larger notebooks require a little more horsepower to be really useful,” but like Mike ...
The Last 12-Inch Netbook in America
Technologizer —
Have I mentioned lately that I’m a big fan of netbooks–but that I think treating them as a fundamentally different sort of device than a notebook is kind of silly, and that it’s a shame the computer industry doesn’t seem to like them much? A netbook is just a notebook that happens to be (1) small and light, (2) designed for relatively basic computing tasks rather than heavy-duty stuff, and (3) attractively priced. And despite ongoing ...

... and 1080p HDMI output.
The design is clean and unfussy, a stout plastic chassis in black or white, with no silly keyboard shenanigans to make typing a pain. BlueTooth, WiFi, a 160GB hard drive, an ExpressCard slot and a 6-cell battery round it out.
Lenovo's S12 hits a sweet spot between compact size and practicality. It'll be most interesting to those who've been turned off by the experience of cheap netbooks, but who are still looking for something small.

Windows 7 netbooks now shipping
Liliputing —
It’s Windows 7 launch day… and that means many of those pretty little netbooks and notebooks I told you about the other day that come preloaded with Windows 7 are now shipping. I placed an order for an Acer Aspire Timeline AS181T to review and it should ship in a few days. But I’ve already seen evidence that 10 inch netbooks from Asus, HP, Sony, and other PC makers have already shipped.
