Google search exposes UK credit card data
The credit card details of thousands of British online shoppers were made available online recently, giving anyone using the Google search engine access to the sensitive information. The details, which included credit card numbers, names and addresses of Visa, Mastercard and American Express card users, was apparently released accidently by cybercriminals from the Far East who were planning to sell the information. Hugely worrying According to the Daily Mail , a spokesperson for banking ...

Disney signs content deal with YouTube
Techradar - All the latest technology news — After numerous announcements about music distributors pulling content from YouTube, it's good to hear that the video site is making progress in other areas. Disney has signed on the dotted line, which means that the website will now be able to host selected TV shows from the Mouse House. Unfortunately, there is a bit of a catch. The content which YouTube gets is 'short-form' only. This means that YouTube won't actually carry full episodes of Disney shows, just select snippets. Good for advertising The deal sees the website pull further away from its original user-generated stance. This is all to do with advertising. Having premium content ...

Firefox 3.0 is Europe's most popular browser
Techradar - All the latest technology news — Firefox 3.0 is officially the most popular web browser in Europe, according to StatCounter's latest statistics. Although Mozilla's browser lags behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer if you add all of the latter's different versions together, FireFox has finally pipped IE7 as the most used individual browser version – with 35.05 per cent of the market, according to the data. Firefox, benefiting from the fact that it doesn't have the same problem with 'legacy' users who stay on older versions of the browser and the arrival of IE8 which is prising people away from IE7. Not much in it The gap is currently just over half of a percentage point, ...

Opinion: GhostNet is a wakeup call to switch to Linux
Techradar - All the latest technology news — It's compromised over 1,000 machines in 103 countries, with targets including the Dalai Lama and government departments. It's called GhostNet, it's a spy network, and it wouldn't exist if government departments and other public bodies used Linux. The scale of GhostNet is staggering, but at heart it's no more complicated than a script kiddie attack. Somebody receives an email with an official looking document, they open the file, and a Trojan sneaks onto their system. While the level of research is impressive - the emails appear to come from senior members of staff, the file names fit the organisation's style and the supposed documents sound like the sort of ...
