Oh No You Don’t, Google! Facebook Connect Now Generally Available, Too
TechCrunch —
... and end users. MySpace managed to beat out both Facebook and Google months ago when it publicly launched its service.
While Facebook Connect is now available to all developers, we have yet to see live implementations from many of Facebook’s supposed launch partners, a few of which were highlighted during this summer’s F8 conference.
We rolled out Facebook Connect on TechCrunch yesterday.
Update: Here is Mark Zuckerberg’s post on the news.

... of thousands of developers to create meaningful social experiences for users on Facebook.com," said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO, Facebook. "With today’s launch of Facebook Connect, we’re extending that power to millions of entrepreneurs and developers, transforming the Web into a more social place where Facebook’s users can engage in trusted social experiences with their friends."

Facebook Connect goes live; Tell your favorite Web site
Between the Lines —
... Facebook posted some information about Connect on its own blog today. I have to admit, I love the last paragraph of that entry. It reads: Obviously our launch partners don’t cover all the websites you use on a daily basis, so if you want to see this list grow, get in touch with your favorite websites, developers, and services, and tell them you want to connect. With your help, we can all share more information across the web. That’s how things work in the viral / social networking world. Instead of sending Facebook folks out there to drum up partnerships with Web sites, let ...
Facebook Connect opens for business, Google offers beta rival
Technology: Technology blog | guardian.co.uk —

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has posted a note on the Facebook blog to say that "Starting today, you'll see prompts for Facebook Connect at websites across the Internet and have the opportunity to take your Facebook profile information, friends and privacy preferences to your favorite sites." ...
Facebook Connect - single sign in done right
Gear Diary —
... I started my writing experience at GearDiary by commenting on a story by Jenneth and Judie who had written about how Facebook was the greatest thing since sliced bread (my paraphrasing). At the time I derided it as a place for “chicks with hot pictures” to hang out and chat up guys. I couldn’t have been more wrong. They’ve just added a very exciting new tool called Facebook Connect that might do away with all those logins you have to remember for sites you regularly visit. ...
Data Portability Google and Facebook Style: Which One Will Webmasters Choose?
Profy —
... It is not surprising that we will now see a very interesting competition between the two internet giants fighting for webmasters attention and persuading them into using their data portability services. Facebook founder Marc Zukerberg has already encouraged the social network’s users to contact webmasters of their favorite websites and ask them to install the code required for Facebook Connect to work so that the visitors won’t have to register and build new profiles every time they want to use a new site. And ...
Google and Facebook Open Up "Connect" Programs

... to the public, the similarly named Google Friend Connect and Facebook Connect. Both services are aimed at letting users extend their online identity beyond the confines of a single social network.
Both initiatives were announced earlier in the year, but until now have been open only to developers. Google was the first to open its Connect service, with Facebook following suit less than an hour later.
More information on the Connect programs can be found at Google and Facebook's respective blogs.
As ye socialize, so shall ye reap
GMSV —
Even as Facebook and Google introduce new ways to incorporate a larger portion of the Web into your online social presence, there is fresh evidence that such socializing is not without some peril. * You could become an object of suspicion at work. Intel recently surveyed 200 corporate and government IT professionals and found that 13 percent regarded employees under 30 as “a major security concern,” while 37 percent tagged them as “somewhat of a security concern,” largely because they’re more likely to frequent social networking sites. Among the IT ...
Phase II of Google and Facebook's OpenID arms race
Betanews —
... Friend Connect Product Manager said, "We have been working closely with a handful of Web site owners, social networks, and application developers to improve its speed and scalability, ease of use, and customization capabilities. We've also expanded the features available to users with richer, more integrated profiles and new ways to discuss and share content, like including YouTube videos in your comments." Then, a matter of hours later, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook Connect is ready for action , and that "Connect with Facebook" tags like those found on ...
Google Friend Connect vs. Facebook Connect: Google's Fear of Facebook will be their Undoing

... act as a tool to federate-and-aggregate web services on the MySpace social network. It allows people to publish activities from partner sites such as Eventful, Flixster, and new partners Vodafone and Netvibes—all of which are developing MySpaceID implementations. All this talk about IDs and Connects is lots of fancy talk.
Dave Winer put it well when he wrote, “We’re seeing feature wars. That’s what’s going on between Facebook and Google, both perfectly timing the rollouts of their developer proposition ...

Facebook Connect for iPhone: Great, or Yet Another Privacy Threat?
ReadWriteWeb —
... Facebook Connect, its proprietary technology which allows the sharing of data between Facebook and third party applications, can now be integrated into iPhone and iPod Touch applications. This new feature will work in much the same way that Facebook Connect has worked for Web pages over the past few months, by providing a one stop shop for login and allowing you to share your data with your Facebook friends. ...

Other local review sites like Yelp, for example, feature support for Facebook Connect, though Facebook itself doesn't have a 'Facebook Local' feature yet that is tightly integrated with a local review site (though some users hope they will do so soon).
Interestingly, even Citysearch itself already features support for Facebook Connect as well, which, according to Inside Facebook, is generating a ...

... The beauty of Facebook Connect is that it gives you a one stop login when it is implemented on a site. "There is no e-mail; there is no verification process," explained Buch. Interoperability and Online Identity
Six Apart's David Recordon, after explaining that Facebook has been in a dominant position for years in terms of both platform and mindshare, went on to say that Facebook Connect, the service that lets you take your online identity with you all over the Web, may be just what the industry needs.
While the December 2008 news from Facebook may have been welcomed by its users, others saw its proprietary code as a direct ...
MySpace Local Now Open To The Public
TechCrunch —
... These features are certainly appealing, but why is MySpace creating a new destination site when MySpaceID could presumably do many of the same things (Citysearch integrated Facebook Connect in December)? MySpace says that while MySpaceID is coming to Citysearch eventually, the two sites will likely appeal to two different audiences, which is why Citysearch was on board in the first place. Because MySpace Local is directly connected to the social network, users can jump to it seamlessly without having to worry about logging in. Through MySpaceID, users would still have to go ...
