... Limelight Networks among others. CloudFront’s biggest feature is that there are no up-front commitments and long-term contracts. Content delivery networks speed up the Internet by bringing content closer to your location via so-called edge servers. Often when you click on a Web page you’ll see it’s connecting to an Akamai server. Amazon is likely to make two ripples: Smaller media players will begin using content delivery services and pricing for established leaders may get squeezed. ... popular objects to end users at scale. CloudFront works seamlessly with Amazon S3, where users store the original versions of objects delivered through the service. According to a blog post by Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, CloudFront will serve content from 14 edge locations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia: While the pricing and ease of use may prompt some smaller businesses to sign up, Amazon's CloudFront is not for everyone. That's because the service is missing a lot of bells and whistles that CDN customers may want to use. CloudFront is HTTP-only, which ...

Amazon Expands Cloud For Content Delivery - Big Iron In The Cloud - Gotta Love This
Broadband Developments - Unified Communications, Virtualization, Security, and Web 2.0 —
... The CTO of Amazon is blogging the new service from Amazon called CloudFront. I love this approach for obvious reasons but the question remains about reliability and security. In talking to Mendal Rosenblum this past weekend he and I both agreed that many are afraid of pushing information in the cloud. Mendal is the leader in pushing large scale computing and his observations ring true for many corporate enterprises. No doubt Amazon is great for startups but the open question remains for reliability and security. ...
