eBay traffic gradually falling [Meltdowns]
Gawker: valleywag —
... I could spend all day unspinning Henry Blodget's hyperbolic headlines. "eBay Traffic Plummeting" actually means "eBay traffic gradually declining." Unique visitors for October were off 10 percent from a year ago. That's a much smaller slip than the traffic at my local Starbucks. But still, yeah, we're all gonna die. ...
eBay Traffic Stats In Near Freefall
WebProNews Feed —
... makes pretty clear that eBay received fewer unique visitors in October 2008 than the same month last year. The fall amounts to a 13.2 percent year-over-year change, and the September-to-October transition alone accounts for a decrease of 6.2 percent. Even more data that eBay fans are sure to view as disturbing is provided by a table Nielsen Online put together for Henry Blodget . True, Nielsen only reports a 10 percent year-over-year decrease in eBay's unique audience. But the numbers go on to indicate a 19 percent drop in time spent per user, and a 33 percent decline in ...
eBay Struggles, Pageviews Declining Significantly
Technologizer —
... was the largest decline outside of the normal post-holiday slump in two years of data. Now forgive me here — I am no math major — but I’m going to do some number crunching. Using last holiday as a guide, it looks like we can expect about a 10% or so bump up for the holidays. Even if this occurs, eBay’s traffic would be down about 20-30% year over year. Silicon Alley Insider (which I think goes a bit overboard with the title, it is not that bad yet ...

eBay not so popular these days?
BloggingStocks —
Filed under: Internet, Yahoo! (YHOO), eBay (EBAY), Amazon.com (AMZN) I saw some interesting Nielsen data posted at Silicon Alley Insider the other day about traffic levels at eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY). They seem to be on the decline. I don't want to spend time repeating a bunch of the numbers here, but suffice to say that trends in unique visitors and page views on a year-over-year basis have not been favorable to the online-auction entity. One quick example would be the 33% drop for the page-view category seen in October. ...

What If the Recession Does Turn Into a Depression? [GigaOM]

... , of course, will become more sought after than it was in the boom times. And while it will be difficult to generate revenue with a free (see: ad-supported) model, such an approach could become a way for cash-rich companies to build market share: Google is the most obvious beneficiary, but a free model could also offer leverage for Microsoft and even a life raft for Yahoo. Bartering could become more popular, which makes eBay’s current traffic decline hard to understand. Perhaps it will open a door for a rival upstart. ...
