VentureBeat — BitGravity is launching a digital video service today that allows its customers to stream high-definition videos over the Internet. The BG Live service can stream live events in 1080p or 720p resolution (the same quality as high-end TV sets), according to the company’s announcement at DEMO 2009 today. Perry Wu, chief executive of BitGravity, said the HD service is an improvement over the ...

Demo 09: Doing More With Less
Forward Thinking by Michael J. Miller — The opening panel at Demo 09 was entitled "doing more with less." This year's show is notably smaller than the show in past year, with 39 companies instead of the 60 last year, and 500 attendees, down from 700. But executive producer show host Chris Shipley said she looked at the "glass half full," as this year most of the companies had actual business models, rather than just trying to get users and figure out the business model later. These companies, she said, may be more mature and are more efficient at using capital. Shipley also said she would be stepping down from Demo after the Demofall show to Matt ...

DEMO Videos Undermined By Social Media
TechWeb — In presentations at the DEMO Conference Monday morning, several companies pitched their ideas for services that aimed to help consumers and businesses save money and make money more efficiently. Perhaps the most interesting of the four companies in the "Stimulating the Economy" group was 7 Billion People's WebLegend software, which leverages data gleaned from e-commerce sites to redesign checkout pages on the fly, in order to increase conversion rates and reduce shopping cart abandonment. But the promise of startups like this could easily be missed amid the chatter that accompanied ...

DEMObeat video: Energy efficiency, social data sharing, and productivity 2.0
VentureBeat — Regular VentureBeat readers may still be recovering from our onslaught of coverage earlier this week of DEMO, the conference for technology companies launching products. (VentureBeat has partnered with DEMO, and my editor Matt Marshall is now the event’s co-executive producer.)
