Dell scraps plans for new MP3 player in a fit of sanity?
Engadget — ... rebirthing rumor. Dell will shelve the MP3 prototypes it was preparing for a possible fall launch and focus instead, on building out its Zing software to organize the music and movies downloaded to Dell PCs. So no DJ Ditty 2, imagine our sense of loss. A spokesman did say that Dell plans to launch another "half-dozen laptops and desktops between now and the end of the calendar year." Dell Ditching Zing-Based MP3 Player Plans, Says Rumor [Zing]
Gizmodo — ... but now it looks like those plans have been canned. Dell ditches own-brand MP3 players
T3.com All — ... Why the player has been ditched isn't clear, but those same 'sources' claim problems with launching both at the same time. Recently-revamped ranges of iPods and Zunes probably don't help either, or indeed, a weak economy. The company has so far declined to comment on the player, but Dell is promising 'sexy' new products for the latter part of this year and the early part of next. 'Sexy' and 'Dell' - two words we thought would never appear in the same sentence. Dell (via Electronista ) Related links: [image]
