USB 3.0 Only Running at a Quarter of Maximum Speed [Peripherals]
Gizmodo —
... According to a TD Daily interview with a representative of the USB Implementers Forum, when USB 3.0 devices hit shelves in late 2009, we can anticipate transfer speeds of only 1200Mb/s. That's roughly a quarter of USB 3.0's potential, though still more than double USB 2.0 max speeds. So USB 3.0 will still be faster (and more power efficient) than current USB tech at launch, but it won't be fully hulked out just yet. [TG Daily and ...
USB 3.0 slower than expected
Asus Eee News, Mods, and Hacks —
From TG Daily - The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has revealed that USB 3.0 will go through an evolution similar to its predecessor (USB 2.0) and not initially reach the 5000 Mb/s speed. A prototype USB 3.0 hard drive on display at CES maxed out 1320 Mb/s (165 MB/s) in read operations and 1000 Mb/s (125 MB/s) in write processes. While it was a prototype and bandwidth is likely to improve for the actual products, expectations are that it won't exceed much more than 1200 Mb/s (150 MB/s). Even then, this is actually already more than twice the maximum bandwidth of ...
USB 3.0-equipped PCs due before end of the year
TechSpot —
... computers equipped with the next-gen interface, which promises up to 5Gbps transfer speeds, or roughly ten times the speed of USB 2.0. Citing rapid development in integrated circuits and the shipment of compliant controllers to PC manufacturers, the website claims the first USB 3.0-compatible PCs could appear by the end of the year, with 2010 seeing the start of a mass rollout. External storage is the likely first application of this technology. Unfortunately, USB 3.0 devices are not expected to reach its full potential at launch, with speeds probably reaching only 1.2Gbps ...
