It seemed like a neat idea when Research in Motion (RIM) announced it in October : the first smartphone with a clickable touchscreen. I even enjoyed the few minutes I spent playing with a prerelease version of the BlackBerry Storm , which goes on sale Nov. 21 for $200 (after the $50 rebate from ...

Blackberry Storm: The Reviews Are In
Today @ PC World —
... On the other camp, ZDNet's Josh Taylor says " There's no question that the Storm is an impressive piece of gadgetry" but "with the notable exception of WiFi". Josh did find though "a couple of annoying glitches - like the ‘screen rotating on its own' issue, and the noticeable lag time during rotation". As for the hardware itself, Josh thinks of the Storm as "an attractive phone, but not a head-turner" and finds it "a bit chunky." The Last Word on the BlackBerry Storm: It’s Not So Hot

... (Dan Frommer): Bottom line: If we could buy any one phone in the world, we’d still buy an iPhone. If we were serious BlackBerry email users, or signed onto a long-term Verizon contract — the carrier has 70-plus million subscribers — we’d buy a Storm. (If we were BlackBerry email users and not under Verizon contract, and preferred a real keyboard, we’d opt for the Bold at AT&T.) TIME (Anita Hamilton): If, like many Americans, you’re planning to scrimp your way through the holidays, the Storm isn’t worth busting your budget for. Even die-hard BlackBerry fans would be better off ...

What's more, the screen jiggles in the phone's casing when you press on it, which makes it feel cheap." Hamilton reports, "If, like many Americans, you're planning to scrimp your way through the holidays, the Storm isn't worth busting your budget for... ... But I think it fall short of what they were aiming for, and ultimately what all the hype is driving people to expect. Some of this is fixable: The damn thing needs to crash less often. But SurePress is not the end-all, be-all of touchscreen technologies — it’s not really an evolutionary step forward, even. The experience may be fairly refined, but more polish is still needed. Had this Storm been left to brew a bit longer, it would’ve been much more powerful.” * Anita Hamilton at Time : “After 24 hours of actually testing the new BlackBerry side by side with its main ...
Blackberry Storm : Storming the Drains?

... and hardly make any more errors. Also, the screen doesnt seem firm when you do push in ; but it jiggles in the phones casing (not my words) which makes it feel cheap .
Mind you, I aint criticising the other benefits of the Storm of which there are several (despite no WiFi , which broke the deal for me) ; but given that this slow manner of input is the only one available ; perhaps you ought to have a second thought if you are planning to buy the Blackberry Storm.
