Reality just took a back seat to the gaming world, with user-generated species in Spore outnumbering the variety of living creatures on Earth for the first time. Maxis, the Electronic Arts studio, announced today that over 100 million different species had been uploaded since it released the Spore Creature Creator in June of last year. That compares to scientific estimates of between 5 and 100 million species on Earth, although only around 2 million of them have been formally categorised. According to reports and leaked pics, Microsoft is rumoured to be ready to unveil a new motion-sensing device that can map the gamer's entire body and requires no extra controllers. The reports, which emanated from tipster's pic of a white sensor bar under a TV over on Engadget, have understandably sent the pre-E3 rumour mill into overdrive. Capcom looks set to bolster the range of retro games by announcing a whole slew of PSone games for the PlayStation Network in the coming months. Despite the flickering success of the PSN, the library of old PlayStation favourites has been woeful to say the least.
