Sweet. Here’s the new Linux-based Palm OS from Access (they swallowed up Palm Source). It supports Linux apps (cool) and yes, it also supports classic Palm apps too (excellent).
Screenshot makes it look nice and bright compared to the current version, but I’ll bet that looks different on a Treo/Palm.

Access also unveiled its new ALP mini operating system for feature phones. ALP mini is a stripped down version of ALP 3.0 that is meant for less powerful devices. ALP mini is available to manufacturers now, while the official availability date for ALP 3.0 has yet to be made public. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has already said that it will support the new ALP 3.0 platform on its network.

It all looks endearingly Palmy, with thoughtful marination in the new OS features that have come into vogue since Palm left the OS market, including smooth transitions, animation, higher res displays and the ubiquitous accelerometer support. As someone who once fondly owned a Palm m130,
I'd love to see Palm license the OS back and pump out some phones with it... for old time's sake, if for no other reason.
