This Financial Scenario Says There Are No Experts
louisgray.com —
... Today, after using the same methods I've used in the last seven years following the dotcom crash, I saw my personal portfolio take a hit of almost eight percent in one trading session. I've always typically invested in stocks where I feel I know the companies well, which typically sees me overweighted in the technology sector - Apple included. Of course, Apple took more than its fair share of the dive today, losing almost 20 percent of its value - which didn't help matters. ...
Tech Stocks Pick Up, Fall Down
Wired: Epicenter —
Apple, Netflix, TiVo -- beloved consumer brands and doggish stocks in recent weeks -- enjoyed a nice rally in early trading on Wednesday.
It didn't last.
Apple shares shot up more than $7, or 8 percent to $96.33, before losing steam midday. The stock ended up a measly 63 cents ahead of Tuesday's close. TiVo, likewise, got a 6.5 percent bounce, but ended up closing roughly 5 cents, or 1 percent, ahead of yesterday's close.
"It's a market that's driven by emotion and fear at this point," says Toan Tran, an associate director of research at Morningstar in Chicago. ...

Turn That Frown Upside Down; Market Closes Up 553 Points
Wired: Epicenter —
The stock market behaved a lot like a bipolar teenager on Thursday. Shortly after the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged to 7,965.42, the market picked up and rallied to close at 8,835.25 -- which means there was a 911 point trading range today. (Conspiracy theorists could have a heyday with that one.)
Among the most volatile tech stocks: Apple shares fell as low as $86.44, but closed at $96.44; and IBM dipped down to $75.40, but rallied to $84.21 at close. And Microsoft and Intel were easily among the most actively traded stocks. On ...
